Christian Bale, David Threlfall, Edward Hardwicke

From the Visitation to the raising of her son, Jesus, the emphasis here is on Mary's status as a single, unwed mother in a culture where adulteresses were stoned to death for their sins. Mary: Mother ...( read more  read more... )of Jesus is a liberal interpretation of the New Testament that might not sit well with fundamentalists; others, however, may find this Mary intriguing.

I'll watch this cause of Christian Bale but the cover makes it look super cheesey already!

Being a "Star Wars" geek myself, I'm very amused by the fact that Pernilla August plays Mary who - by a virgin birth - conceived the son who was known by a religious prophecy as the chosen messiah. Not Anakin Skywalker, but rather, Jesus Christ. What an interesting film...

I have nothing a priori against Darth Vader's mum also being Jesus's, though this complicates things a bit in my mind. But they managed to shoot all 88 minutes of this thing without using the word "sin" even once, which tells you a lot about its theology.

Another Christian Bal...( read more)e movie I don't like.

    This was a good movie.
  • January 6, 2008
The performances were great but there were all kinds of gaps left in the story.
