Plot: This bio-drama centers around Quebec's most famous hockey player, Maurice "The Rocket" Richard, and focuses on the famous 1955 riot in the Forum.
Wonderful biographical drama of Montreal Canadiens legend Maurice Richard chronicling his rise in the NHL from humble working class machinist in the 1930's to Montreal icon in the 1950's. The film features great old school hockey action and the struggle between not only class but culture. I'm not a hockey or sports fan but I do like sports films like this. This is definitely the "Raging Bull" of hockey movies.
If I were a hockey fan I might see this asa Richard is a legend among hockey fans. But I'm not a fan.
Fantastic bio film of one of Canada's greatest athletes. A must for any true, knowledgeable hockey fan.
decent hockey biography
the guy who plays the rocket looks alot like bruce campbell , it kept messing me up
This is actually a good hockey movie. If you are a fan of hockey then you should see this film. The only thing I wanted more of was further development from the supporting characters.
A must see for hockey fans not familiar with the full history of the sport, otherwise some of the particulars may be lost on you. I went into this looking for a hockey story on a hockey legend instead I was treated to a biography on person who was much more than a hockey legend. My only question was how accurate the portrayal of the NHL was at the time. Having been made by the CBC it can at times seem like a tirade against past injustices rather than a biopic. That said it was a well protrayed film of a man who gave what he could and more to not only a great sport but to his people as well. I was thouroughly pleased with the performances as well as the cameos of various NHL stars. The story did drag at times but overalll did a well above average job at telling a story that is obviously important to the french canadians but import to the history of hockey. The only shame is that this wont get as much circulation as a film like "Miracle" would.
Captured that period of the NHL well, when hockey superstars struggled to make ends meet by doing factory machinist work, rather than commanding ridiculous salaries. There's a little of the French Canadian bravado thrown in for good measure.
I'm not into hockey at all but I liked this movie a lot. I was on the endge of my seat for a good aprt of it, and I loved the fact that it takes place in Montreal.
The social injustices present between french and english Canadians at the time were very well portrayed through the movie.
Apart ça, it was a good bio. I actually learned something. :)
I am a gigantic habs fan, so this was a given, but all in all, probably the best hockey movie ever made
Un assez bon film québécois qui montre notre champion! Mais le film n'a pas vrmt d'histoire...mais c'est assez bon!
what a beautiful movie, you enjoy it even more when you're a Montreal canadien fan like I am
Born & raised in Mtl, go habs go!!
It is really good. It's not all about hockey and conflicts between french canadian and the canadian...It's about how they change ''protection'' for the hockey players.
Wow! Très bon film. Même si le hockey n'est pas une de mes passions, Maurice Richard est une part importante de l'histoire des canadiens-français qui mérite d'être mieux connue. Très intéressant!
Dupuis is my favourite Montreal-based actor. Best delivery, in both French & English. Maurice Richard is someone all Canadian hear of, although most people are unaware of his contributions to the game.
trop fou , maurice c'est l'idol d'un peuple et c'est le mien itoo les scene de hockey sont malade les scenes filmer des vieilles année sont tres bien faite !
An achievement in Canadian cinema. Roy Dupuis is well placed as Richard and does a perfect job capturing his persona on and off the ice, the same can be said of the rest of his cast. Excellent script writing, excellent direction and acting. It lacked nothing, a movie for every collection and you don't need to be afraid to take your girlfriend or wife to watch this movie. It's an excellent effort, a lot of it is in French so be prepared to read a lot of subtitles. Watch for Sean Avery and Vincent Lecalvier as Jean Believeu. Definately worth a watch.
I Love The Actor,He Is Such A Great Actor And Now How To Act.He is one of the best actor in Quebec. The movie is just great,i guess like 75% of people don't know He Did Maurice Before That Movie,Yes He Did For Maurice Richard Historica Moment,You Can View It At www.histori.ca
This was a really touching film. We watched it in English class. But I still liked it. I think it describes alot about what the French went through/are going through.
If you like hockey, it a must see, if you like a real movement, or drama go see it. It has some real good moments.
Really good! Didn't know the story at all before I saw this, so it was educational as well. I liked that they brought up all the tension between anglo- and francophones. "Two Solitudes" by (can't remember) that takes place during the world wars talks about that, too. Anyway, it's a good one.
