Clark Collis, Entertainment Weekly
The result in Meet the Spartans is less classic Mel Brooks than middling Best Week Ever.
-
Aaron Hillis, Village Voice
I'm moving to Europe.
-
Adam Graham, Detroit News
It's so bad even Carmen Electra should be embarrassed.
-
Mark Feeney, Boston Globe
It's a MADtv or Saturday Night Live sketch dressed up in feature-length clothing. It's way too much of an OK thing. And the way-too-much-ness goes on and on.
-
Jeannette Catsoulis, New York Times
Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the team behind Meet the Spartans, prove that ridiculing other movies is much easier than making your own.
-
Joe Leydon, Variety
Lazy, lame and painfully unfunny.
-
Ben Rawson-Jones, Digital Spy
Meet The Spartans? For those unlucky enough to be lured into the cinema, there's every chance you'll be wanting to meet your maker instead.
-
Dave White, Movies.com
Because this movie was written for 10-year-olds, it assumes that those 10-year-olds are the stupidest 10-year-olds alive.
-
Kevin A. Ranson, MovieCrypt.com
What does it say about a film with an hour running time that has twenty minutes of outtakes after the credits to reach theatrical length? Very little that's positive.
-
Wesley Lovell, Cinema Sight
While still not a grand work of art, Meet the Spartans improves upon the formula established in the earlier parodies of Friedberg and Seltzer.
-
Austin Kennedy, Sin Magazine
It's not very good at all, but I did manage to laugh at some moments of sudden pratfalls and comic violence, but the talkshow reference mentality has to go!
-
Sean Axmaker, MSN.com
This tired spoof of 300 is ostensibly a movie parody but almost all the references are ripped from TV reality shows, television commercials and celebrity scandals.
-
Kam Williams, EURWeb
Don't expect anything of depth and you won't be disappointed by this predigested pabulum. Mental bubblegum for the brain whose cinematic taste lasts only about as long as the viewing.
-
Prairie Miller, NewsBlaze
A bizarre, leering orgy of celebrity crotches, lowbrow horny gay buffoons in leather, moronic gladiator mayhem, and too-much-information cascading bodily fluids galore.

Kevin McCarthy, WJFK-FM (CBS Radio)
Besides the few chuckles I had, the movie was just dreadfully bad.
-
Stefan Birgir Stefansson, sbs.is
everybody should be ashamed
-
Simon Braund, Empire Magazine
Obviously, it's rubbish.
-
Linda Cook, Quad City Times (Davenport, IA)
This is supposed to be a spoof of '300.' But 'Meet the Spartans' isn't a satire of anything. It's just a bunch of body-function-based skits that randomly feature scenes from movies and television shows -- and not a single one of them is laugh-inducing

Jim Lane, Sacramento News & Review
...couldn't get a laugh from a hyena.

OOOOOK this is crap, pure crap, yet there are some scenes which are funny and do work quite well. The amazing thing is some scenes do look pretty good and are worthy of the actual film they are taking the piss out of, to a degree. But the main problem with some spoofs today is they are too spoofy/extreme, too utterly stupid, classic spoofs like 'Naked Gun' and 'Airplane' are daft but they still have a core story and you can follow it.
Also the jokes are not just abstract and meaningless they do blend with the main idea and follow the story or match the sequences, these modern spoofs are just too ridiculous. As for Carmen Electra...getting old now and Maguire wasn't too bad actually, beats his 'Eastenders' shit and he does look the part amazingly!.

The piece of cinematic diarrhoea that is "Meet the Spartans" was not worth the effort it took to make this review. This is quite possibly the only movie i've seen where i've turned it off before I even got half way into the film. Looking back on the experience I wish I had never even started. I remember probably one laugh in what i'd call the worst parody film ever. And thats coming from someone who hasn't even seen the movie it's taking the mick out of (300).

I'd like to give the directors for this a hard, facial bitchslap. Why? MEET THE SPARTANS wasn't just any old terrible movie. It was an unbelievably failed attempt to mash SCARY MOVIE with the Battle of Thermopylae. I have not even seen 300, the film which this parodies, but even an idiot can tell that this was a terrible spoof. I'll admit some parts are funny, such as the opening scene in which the not-so-politically-correct take on the Spartan sacrificing of imperfect babies is shown (actually, that could just be the only part that draws even a chuckle); but much of the rest is just a bunch of gross, dumb tries to make a parody as funny as one of its predecessors in spoofing, such as SCARY MOVIE and NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE. Bottom line: I regret meeting the Spartans.
-
Only five percent of the movie is an actual 300 parody, the other ninety five percent are stale pop culture references and unfunny comedy.

Who would pay to see this shit???

Pretty bad movie. I only laughed because it was bad. If you're in the mood for a bad comedy, check out Meet the Spartans. If thats not the case, don't waste your time!
-
It's cheap. It's gay. It's dated. It's trashy. It's better than 300! I like this thing. It's hilarious stuff. I have a soft spot for this particular movie. Dumb, yeah, but fun.
-
Normally I would give credit to a spoof movie, because of how much dumb fun comes out of it, but this is so bad that it's not even savagably good. I love watching these films to laugh at them, but I couldn't even do that for this film. What a joke!

i only saw the first 30 minutes and then i turned it off. F

This is one of the worst films Ive ever seen...

That's why I don't like to watch comedy movies. Always full of disgusting things. I never eat while watching this kind of movies. Eww!

Did anyone really expect anything other than a spoof comedy? It is good for what it is - a spoof of 300.

Meet the Spartans has a few (very few) reasons why it's getting two stars from me, instead of the one star rating that it probably deserves.
1. It was the only movie on television on a day that I was extremely bored and didn't have any of my own personal movies to watch.
2. I didn't pay to see it.
3. There are one or two scenes that are dumb AND funny, amidst all the other scenes that are just dumb.
4. Carmen Electra is still smokin', in a stripper kind of way.
5. It was extremely short.
6. It made me want to watch 300.
7. I'm feeling very generous today.

Ok, I have a serious problem with this film that I haven't seen anyone else address. Let me go ahead and get this out of the way first: spoof movies suck now. They're over done, boring, and tacky. 10 years from now no one's going to laugh at this crap. Hell, I had already forgotten about some of this material in only 2 years. Mind-blowingly awful...
Second, my most angry point: the tasteless, gaudy, despicable reference to Anna Nicole Smith's death. I understand it's "pop culture" but it was incredibly cheap and insensitive to poke at someone's untimely death at such a young age. Do director's Friedberg and Seltzer have no souls??? Do they not understand the term "Rest In Peace"? It's bad enough their failed attempts at "humor" was pathetic, but this inappropriate reference to a deceased icon only puts the nail in the coffin making this easily one of the worst films of all time.
Oh, and if you want your film to suck, cast Carmen Electra.

There's not much to say about this movie beside's its another spoof. We've seen them before and we know what there all about.
The exception with this movie is that makes it semi-good is that instead of being just another crappy spoof on movies in general, it takes some great shots at modern reality shows, and celebrity drama that we have seen in the media in the last few years. It truly does have some halarious parts.
It's also hot because Carmen Electra is in it and no one can deny her of her sexiness! Other then that though - the movies just another spoof.
It's not the best, but its not the worse I have seen. It's a good movie to watch when your drunk, with friends, or dont really want to take anything seriously for a day. It's average.

Meet The Spartans
Words that can?t be used to describe this riff on abs-and-stabs actioner 300 from the Epic Movie team: spoof, comedy, parody, funny, clever, inventive, tolerable, movie... We could go on. But let?s just pretend it never happened, okay?
