The Asylum's first made for SciFi channel original movie, this stars Brittany Murphy and Eriq La Salle; that is weird to write, the Asylum with real actors, OMG! This is their biggest budgeted film to date, and it shows. The cinematography is opened up more then in their past, an...( read more)d there are many more crane and aerial shots, providing a decent sense of style. This is also one of their best acted pictures, but is that a surprise? The pacing of the movie is nice, as once the first earthquake hits, it does not really let up.

    Good cast, horrible disaster movie!

Looks like the Thanksgiving turkey came early this year...
This in undoubtedly the absolute worst disaster film ever made...unless you count the making of the movie itself as a disaster, then it takes top honors.
It looks like a six year old wrote the script, a seven year old...( read more) directed and an eight year old produced it.
Brittany Murphy must have taken acting lessons from a mail order catalog school. She can do three things...scream, cry or look angry. And she does all of these at a level equal to a grade school play.
As far as the great special effects go - what a joke.
In one scene a truck is driving down a country road when the 'earthquake' starts. The special effects... regularly spaced fireball explosions in the ditch beside the road. Very realistic, yeah, right!!
Of course a technonic ray blasted from a satellite saves the world. I wonder how long we've had that up there? And of course the male lead dies in the end as his truck gets stuck, never mind that it is a four-wheel drive military truck. Rather than bail out and run, he just sits there and waits for the end - and it comes as his truck falls in the crevasse - then the earthquake stops. If he only could have driven another 25 feet, he would still be with us today.
If it is possible to give a negative rating then I give this farce a minus 10 stars!
