Although it was entertaining during most parts, the adaptation just doesn't remind of the original TV series.

What happened!?! How could a director of one of the coolest shows on TV miss the boat so badly directing a big screen version? I was a fan of the show, and this doesn't even BEGIN to do it justice.
Mann apparently completely blacked out his entire memory of what made Miami Vi...( read more) -

A dark, stylish, gripping and adreniline-pumping action-packed edge of your seat thriller. It's a heart-pounding thrill-ride that kicks serious ass and hits harder than most crime drama's in it's field. Dirdctor, Michael Mann crafts a solid, compelling and razor-sharp film. Colin...( read more)

This movie is soooo very much alike afew others made during the time, Training Day, Harsh Times, Collateral and the recent Street Kings. The same meaning, looks, action sequences, style and cast. Vice looks truely cool, ice cool, the cast and costumes are so so very slick and sty...( read more)

I prefer to keep my memories of the original Sonny and Tubbs
EDIT: and then I saw it after all...... and I wish I really had kept my memories of the original Sonny and Tubbs -

To me, this movie was pretty bad, it was nothing at all like the 80's hit tv show, to which I was never a die hard fan of but I liked to watch once in a while.

O.K. film. This film wasn't bad but could have been alot better. Mann's direction was good but the screenwriters could have made it more interesting. The acting by Foxx, Farrell, and Gong was good.

So Damn Bad, It's Unbearable! It's a painstaking death trip, in which the killer is the one who dies, from being over talked to death.

Critic Reviews
This somber action picture bravely defies expectations and gives us something wholly new. full review
The truest thing to say about Miami Vice is that it's an OK picture with some superb things in it. full review
If you're looking for a crime story that sizzles with action, sex and the visceral jolt of life on the edge, Miami Vice is the one. full review
It might be an empty vessel, but it zooms. full review
Sensual and scary, the movie is so visually textured you feel as though you're brushing against the screen. full review
As it passed the two-hour mark, I began to fear the ending might never actually end. That it finally did was one of the movie's highlights. full review
Mixing pop savvy with startling formal ambition, Michael Mann transforms a long, fairly predictable cop-show episode into a dazzling (and sometimes daft) Wagnerian spectacle.
The plot is not overtaxing -- it's about guns, drugs and money -- because the real focus is the allure, danger and alienation of hiding behind an assumed identity. full review
I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It's a sensational trip -- gorgeous, gaga. full review

December 10, 2007The new "In the air tonight" was by Nonpoint and I think it went well with the movie...Not that it really made a difference seeing as it was only heard in the closing credits of the theatrical release.
It made sense to use an updated version of "In the air tonight" seeing as it is an update of Miami Vices set in 2006.
I think it would would have been even cooler though if Jan Hammer had done the soundtrack, but he sadly turned down. -
December 10, 200780's Miami Vice & Miami Vice 2006 co-exist as being both great so it don't matter which is better.

December 1, 2007It was good, but my expectations were not met. I know that they fucked with Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" & made into a remix, sung by someone else. It sounds like SHIT, especially in comparison to the original. However Michael Mann is a strong enough of a director,... so that it didn't fuck up the entire movie...
Some parts of the movie ran so fast, like in the beginning with the music being so loud, it was hard to understand wtf was going on & why did they do this, or why didn't they finish that conversation with that character, etc. Fast paced, just like the tv show, but it was a little to over the top & I think the overall story suffered. The relationship between Ricardo and Trudy was kinda lame and the way that she lived at the end after that big ass explosion was kinda lame too. The tv show was better. -
October 27, 2007"Its can be better if they choose actors other than Foxx and Farrell... Imagine instead Danzel Washington and Russell Crowe."

May 3, 2007As being a fan of Michael Mann, this turned out to be better than i expected. Although it's a heavily flawed film, doesn't mean it's bad. What appeals to me is that in a time of hair-ironing metro sexuals with peticures, it's good to see an action flick which consists of two macho, manly action heroes who are willing to risk their lives. It's a reminder of how the action hero is in decline. Visually the film is impeccable. Quite not the LA of 'Heat', but the use of HD camera captures the grittiness of the seductive city. And the fact that this isn't no 'Lethal Weapon' or 'Rush Hour' type buddy-cop movie, shown between the chemistry of Foxx and Farrell: they play two professionals carrying out their jobs. It's an unemotionally cold, violent and visceral package of entertainment. Not a masterpiece, nowhere near a classic, but definately Michael Mann's most underrated film yet.
