Spielberg and Cruise's first collaberation doesn't disappoint. I loved the story and 'realistic' special effects. Samanatha Mortan and Colin Farrell provide solid support too.
This is an excellent intelligent, thought-provoking, well-made sci-fi thriller with great effects and good acting. Spielberg did a great job of translating Dick's work.
A spectacular and mind-blowing blast of science fiction and suspense. Director, Steven Spielberg has crafted a marvelous achievement. A brilliant edge ogf your seat thriller. Jaw-dropping speacial effects and non-stop thrills. Full-on excitment with some great and kinetic action sequences. Stunning, breathtaking and tremendously entertaining. A high tech mystery. A masterpiece. Tom Cruise is teriffic. Colin Farrel is brilliant.
Personally, it has that sentimental side to it that Spielberg is known for and I believe honestly that Munich owns this but yet, this film is amazing. I found the end to be really strong, it hit that part of me hard. I was wondering how much of the end was really what I believed in, a world with no crime but a few sacrifices or a world where we solve crime, with few errors in wrong convictions. It was really fascinating to say the least.
Not a huge fan of blockbuster movies like this and I am becoming less of a Spielberg fan with each movie he releases. However, this movie was alright thanks to its unique storyline.
Frankly I dont watch Movies with Tom Cruise a lot. This guy iritates me and he looks stupid when he does those Action Movies, rather then Mission Impossible, Collectral I was surprised by this Movie and the action scenes with him were Awesome. And beside it was directed by Spielberg. I like Spielberg s Movies. Guilty: I loved this Movie.
It was the second movie that when it ended, unconsciously I stood up and clapped hands (the first one was War of the Worlds).
This man, Steven Spielberg, is wonderful. He gets you excited and haunted. He can totally take the control of your feelings.
His movies are MAJESTIC.
He is a master in film making.
In my point of view he is the symbol of America (New World).
Best scifi, crime thriller story ever with Tom Cruise at his best..
THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING
PLOT
BACKROUND OF THE CHARACTERS
MUSIC
ACTION
VISION
DESIGN
Very good thriller. However, the let down is that they could have made it simpler. It starts off easy to digest, which, in turn, makes the film move very fast. You don't notice how fast time has gone by. But then it gets less simple and , in turn, makes the film feel like ages. In comparison to this, the direction from spielberg is, of course, first grade and the acting is utterly superb.
Much worth the watch and the twist ending was worth all the let downs.
Superb sci-fi thriller, with top notch special effects and a brilliant storyline. What's funny though, is that it also includes some absurd dialogue in Swedish, which was hilarious for me who is a Swede myself. Spielberg did the exact same thing with Peter Stormare in Jurassic Park II, so it seems to have become a recurring element with him. But I'm happy that he does, because there's nothing more fun than hearing someone curse in Swedish in a big-budget Hollywood flick. At least when it's done in a believable fashion, like here.
just another masterpiece of steven that made me like tom cruise for the first time and i don`t expect that happen again. anyway the philip k dick stuff has inspired a lot of directors and the result of that inspiration has been mostly perfect. i want u to know this is one of the best adaptations of his novels. so don`t miss it and if u haven`t read philip`s books don`t miss them either.
What if we could predict murders before they actually happened? Spielberg and Cruise take us into the future and find that stopping murder isn't as easy as first thought when the hero is wanted for murder too!
This is a great film. The look of the film is superb. It's actually a reverse film noir. Where classic film noir uses shadows, this film uses light. It's Steven Spielberg's second best film since 2000.
The first movie of Spielberg's unofficial "Running Man" trilogy; the latter films being "Artificial Intelligence: AI" and "Catch Me If You Can".
I had the chance to re-watch Minority Report recently. The special effects have aged, but certain creations (the computer, the spiders) still hold power as amazingly inventive sci-fi imagery. The product placement is cringe-worthy; yes, I understand they took a novel approach to it but the obvious placement scenes detract from the movie.
Tom Cruise is his normal, very capable self in this role; specifically, his reaction as the climax approached. I think you put any other actor in those shoes and you don't get near the same emotion.
The drawback today is the same drawback when I originally viewed it. The world they created, the film-noir-esque story they are telling (the detective finds out he is the next one to commit a murder), the moral issues, are all top notch. There is a bit of nonsense, but you can expect that in any blockbuster.
Unfortunately, after the climax of the film (and what an incredible climax!) the film continues on for another 30-45 minutes on another story/twist. While interesting, this twist doesn't stand up to the story of the first 100 minutes. I ended up a bit deflated.
An enjoyable film, but I think it would have been much better if they lopped the last 30 minutes off and worked around the original hook.
This movie adaptation of the Philip K. Dick story strays from the material, but does put Tom Cruise on the run, blinds him, and gives him new eyes, literally. Cruise plays a man convicted of murder before he even commits a crime, in a world where minds are read like books and emotions imply intent. Steven Spielberg tries for gritty scifi with this, succeeding with th right amount of action and dazzling sets and effects.
John Anderton: Mr. Marks, by mandate of the District of Columbia Precrime Division, I'm placing you under arrest for the future murder of Sarah Marks and Donald Dubin that was to take place today, April 22 at 0800 hours and four minutes.
Tom Cruise stars in a sci-fi thriller directed by Steven Spielberg, from a story originally by Philip K. Dick, sounds like a lot of good elements put into one film to me.
The story is set in the near future, we follow police officer John Anderton, played by Tom Cruise, the head of the Pre-Crime Division. This division literally stops murders before they happen due to predictions of the future made by gifted humans held in isolation.
Director Burgess: Who's the victim? John Anderton: Somebody, Leo Crow Director Burgess: Who's Leo Crow? John Anderton: I have no idea. But I'm suppose to kill him in less than thirty-six hours.
Problems arise for John when he learns that he is the next potential murderer and therefore goes on the run in order to prevent his capture and learn the truth behind this prediction. However, by attempting to prove the prediction wrong, John threatens to ruin the system that Pre-Crime has developed.
Officer Fletcher: John, don't run. John Anderton: You don't have to chase me.
Colin Ferrell also stars as another detective assigned to investigate Pre-Crime, hoping to find some sort of flaw in the system. They you have the excorcist himself, Max von Sydow as the founder of Pre-Crime. Also working their way into the film are Peter Stormare, Samantha Morton, and Tim Blake Nelson.
Besides the extremely cool plot, which provides for both summer entertainment and deeper elements of drama concerning Cruise's character and element of the story that unfold.
Spielberg's direction is also of course very welcome. The film is given such a fantastic visual style and wonderful sense of storytelling that knows how to deliver what is required while remaining inventive throughout. A scene involving robotic spiders searching a house comes to mind when thinking of the type of creativity that went into this movie.
John Williams is of course here to provide a wonderful score as well, and enough can't be said about the effects work that ILM continues to deliver with.
Cruise is also very effective in the lead as well. There are elements of his character revealed over the course of the film that really come through with the effort that he puts into it.
If there is any problem with this film, it is the way the film brings itself to an end. Suffice it to say there is a point, which the film could end, but similar to A.I., it doesn't and goes on for another half an hour, which isn't necessarily bad, but feels as if it has been completed, despite being in a darker spot.
Still, the whole film is a very smartly plotted adventure thriller, which plays with a number of interesting themes and works wonderfully visually.
John Anderton: Why'd you catch that? Danny Witwer: Because it was going to fall. John Anderton: You're certain? Danny Witwer: Yeah. John Anderton: But it didn't fall. You caught it. The fact that you prevented it from happening doesn't change the fact that it was *going* to happen.
Speilberg is a strange genius. And it shows in this one. Yeah its predictable crap, but its resonant. It kind of looms around, and has some good ideas.
