It is made out to be as great as "The Neverending Story" but is very low budget. The set pieces and creature designs aren't anything grand. It has a song-singing Gnome, a giant furry wookiee creature and children which turn into butterflies. It has a European flavor to it all. L...( read more)ittle kids will be amused. I got some chuckles for how cheap it was. Superchannel used to air this repeatedly.

I guess it was better when I was younger. Now it's more the play of a young Christian Bale that's worth a look.

Awful!! Completely awful! This book was my child-hood favourite and I never ever imagined someone could manage to make this beautiful story feel so utterly ridiculous... Soooooo disappointing!!!!

A story by a Swedish author that takes place in Stockholm...but with english speaking actors like Christian Bale...and then dubbed into Swedish. Very strange!

My father read this aloud for to me when I was a kid, and I still remember the bikeride up the hill to see this in the cinema.
Perhaps I should leave this with the fond memories and not watch it again?

I've always loved this movie, from the moment it came out.... Now I'm 25 and I can still lose myself in the magick! :)

It's also nice to see that Christian Bale has gone so far in his career! :)
