Mirrormask is one of the strangest and most imaginative films I've seen in a long time. It begs comparisons to an earlier Jim Henson film called Labyrinth. Both movies are about a troubled girl on a quest to save a kingdom, meeting all sorts of creatures along the way. In Mirr...( read more)

This is a really splendid visual feast. Neil Gaiman's story, Jim Hensons Company and Davie Mckea produce a wonderful feast for the eyes with a nifty little fantasy story. Well done.

I think that Dave McKean's artwork looks better in 2 Dimensions. Otherwise this is a very good albeit scary-looking children's movie. It loses points because the story seems to go off track and get away from Gaiman, but the characters are engaging and grounded just enough to keep...( read more)

This was a difficult movie to watch and get into. The basis for the story is solid and similar in many ways to Pan's Labyrinth...however the quality and experience are very different. MirrorMask digs a lot deeper into the imaginary world. The graphics leave a lot to be desired...( read more)

Incredible art, bland story.
Also, if my audience was any indication, MirrorMask is not really a children's movie; the kids I watched it with seemed antsy and disinterested. In contrast, my adult brother and I couldn't take our eyes away from the truly imaginative artwork! -

I enjoyed this movie a good deal. While written by one of my favorite writers, the standout feature of this are the amazing, trippy visuals. This is a feast for the eyes. Well worth the watch.

Parceria proveitosa de um grande artista gráfico (Dave Mckean) e um grande contador de histórias (Neil Gaiman). Filme interessante pra quem gosta do fantástico.

Too long, and too rich, for its own good, but clearly Gaiman and McKean were bursting with ideas. Those ideas fly all over the place, sometimes landing with a thunk, but more often taking the breath a... full review
It's a near-flawless marriage of content and form, a movie that kids, adults and graduate students of computer imagery will all have their own reasons to love. full review
Too strange and disjointed to attract much of an audience, but its astonishing visuals showcase a major new talent: first-time feature director and book illustrator Dave McKean. full review
Aggressive visual invention is rarely its own reward, and this movie does nothing to better the odds. full review
Inarguably a visual masterpiece, its story has been so stretched past all barriers of comprehension it leaves its viewers bewildered about what they experienced. full review
The movie is a triumph of visual invention, but it gets mired in its artistry and finally becomes just a whole lot of great stuff to look at while the plot puts the heroine through a few basic moves o... full review
An amalgamation of so many disparate artistic influences that any hint of originality ultimately stems less from creative invention than imaginative synthesis. full review

November 5, 2007Very well done. Realistic in its form of a dream. Some of the scenes were reminiscent of an Escher drawing, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
