More intense and heartstopping than the first two films.

After watching repeated runs of this on TNT, I realize it's not as bad as I initially thought...Still, it has issues, and also never quite matches the quality of the first one.

Well, as long as Mr. Cruise liked it, that?s main thing, eh Tom!?
  • August 27, 2009
Caught the conclusion on CBC, and it's fairly exciting: lots of sprinting Tom Cruise and some great Phillip Seymour Hoffman playing-himself-for-a-ton-of-money villainy. I would watch the whole thing some time, for sure. [Real review pending.]

This is getting better, again, the action is very very good, the film looks good and its become alittle more adult in time. Almost a 'Die Hard' style flick, but not a 'Die Hard' beater. Again, Cruise likes himself too much but the cast makes up for it, Hoffman being a very close ...( read more)Rickman beater and Pegg adding some good relief, but not over the top. Basically the adult edge is a winner but its still nothing that special.

I give tom cruise a 1.5 and the rest of the film a 3.

Lots of good action and suspense. The shooting and editing of the action scenes as well as the special effects were impressive. The scene when he was standing over the roof in Shanghai was an impressive shot as if he was standing right on the edge. Too bad his wife dies at the en...( read more)d. Ooops, I didn't mean to let that out, but since she is killed at the beginning and much of the movie is a flashback, it's nothing surprising...

Phillip Seymour Hoffman is one of today's greatest actors, but for some reason I have a difficult time taking him as an evil character. It's not his thing. He's played too many idiosyncratic/gay/mentally challenged/dumb characters to all of a sudden play a serious terrorist. And ...( read more)what was up with Lawrence Fishburne? Since when have you become more wooden than Tom Cruise? A disappointing mess.

David Edelstein, New York Magazine

There are no flourishes to savor. Instead, there are big-deal stunts. full review

The grand finale? A fistfight, after which somebody gets run over. Listen, if I want to see that kind of action, I don't go to Shanghai. I don't even go to the movies. I go to the South Bronx and stan... full review

Nick Schager, Slant Magazine

Shallow to its core and as propulsive as a runaway locomotive, it's the most blatantly summer movie-ish of the Mission Impossibles. full review

Colin Covert, The Minneapolis Star Tribune

A smart, tightly directed thriller that could serve as the template for film schools teaching Summertime Escapism 101. full review

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

There is a theory that action is exciting and dialogue is boring. My theory is that variety is exciting and sameness is boring. full review

Against sizable odds -- a sense that the franchise is played out and its star over-exposed -- Mission: Impossible III delivers. full review

May 4, 2006
Moira MacDonald, Seattle Times

This is the franchise's third film (each with a different director), and it may well be the most successful of the bunch. full review

M:I:3 is big, cacophonous entertainment, crackling and explosive, a giant bag of Pop Rocks for the eyes. full review

Watching Mission: Impossible III, I kept wishing I was at home watching episodes of Alias instead. full review

The movie to beat this summer in the race to push your pulse rate past the danger zone. And please don't ask if the plot makes sense. full review

A nice and holistic meld of action and passion. Nothing short of stellar acting and stunning action and sweet story.

Good God almighty! Take the biggest star in hollywood, put him in a mega action blockbuster, with Abrams directing costarring a man who won the award for best actor, and this is what you get,a movie that rocks the boxoffice and blows audiences away. MI3 delivers the bang in a big way, Tom Cruise gives his top quality performance. The effects, the story, the action, the music, everything is so intense. Way better than your average action flick. MI3 the best installment yet, puts you right in the danger zone and thrills you again and again. You will believe the main characters emotion, you will believe the egotistic motivation of the villian, you WON't be able to believe the high risk over the top stunts. You might even discover that being bored during this film is simply...impossible.
