Although many people thought this was a horrible film, I didn't think it was too bad. The idea is something to ponder over, as it presents a brand new idea about the origins of man. I'm a fan of Gary Sinise, and he brings everything to the film. Interesting one to see, especially if you enjoy movies about space travel.
Mission to Mars is about a space mission to the Red Planet, but nothing very interesting happens there, unless special effects in crappy conspiracy based science about "a face on Mars" and aliens is considered adventure.
Mesmerizing. Not what you would expect when seeing a movie about astronauts going to mars. Brian De Palma (Mission: Impossible I) is one engaging director.
I'm giving this movie two stars, not because it's any good. But because it's one of those movies that's so bad it's good. So many funny parts that simply were not meant to be funny. I love it.
This had the potential to be a fairly decent movie but sadly it never quite makes it beyond being a slightly above average sci-fi flick. I think the problem is that everyone involved tried too hard to make what they thought would be one of the all time classic sci-fi films. Good story, good actors but something just doesn't work with this. Gary Sinise looks tiny compared when he is stood near Tim Robbins.
Yet another stupid and predictable Sci-fi film. I hate films that have a decent budget but splash out on big names to star in it so they have nothing left for effects but they do them anyway. Some of the space shots really were awful and looked as though they were done in a back room. The mars scenes were clearly shot in a desert. Other films at least try to disguise that in some way but this film had clear run out of money by that point and tried to cover that up by using a red filter. The acting was pretty bad even from the bigger names. You didn't feel any sympathy towards any of the characters or feel in anyway that you knew or cared for them. Not a film I would recommend even for those that are into this genre, you will just be disappointed.
It's been a while since I've seen this film, and probably if I was to watch it again, I would like it better, but I never understood it at the time, and can only rate it on that.
It's missing something. Too much relationship storylines and when there is action it's dull and not much to see, more of the actors telling the audience how much danger they are in. For such a good cast, I expected more.
Great story, good effects, and a well pulled off ending. Character building was great, unlike many movies that forget to build the structure of each individual.
What starts out as a very promising movie ends up being a complete waste of time. What a cheesy, cliché, over-the-top and awkward movie this was. Brian DePalma directed it? Nahhh, I refuse to believe the mastermind behind 'The Untouchables', 'Scarface' and 'Carlito's Way' crafted this confusing misfire. The only decent part about the film is the acting. Gary Sinise, Don Cheadle and Tim Robbins are all top-notch in their roles even if their material flat-out stinks. Connie Nielsen is decent, while child-actor turned Sliders-star Jerry O'Connell is laughably bad. The writing is so jumbled and the film offers such a smug, arrogant and most of all confusing conclusion it will no doubt infuriate any viewer. I don't recommend this movie to anyone. Grade: C-
oh, God! I had to sit through this piece of crap movie when my TV Production teacher in high school was absent. he should've chosen "Beauty And The Beast" or something similar.
Visually i epect alot from DePalma...and this film delivers in that dept. There are some really gorgeous shots here. But you know your in trouble when Jerry O'Connell turns in the best performance amoung a group of terrific actors like Robbins, Cheadle and Sinise. Jerry Fucking O'Connell! Man ive seen better acting at high school plays. I cant beleive all these actors sucked as bad as they did here.
Mission to Mars is a fun pulp sci-fi film but thats about it. Definatly not DePalmas finest hour.
Jim McConnell: There's pressure in here. Terri Fisher: Above Mars atmospheric? That's impossible. Jim McConnell: We're millions of miles from Earth inside a giant white face. What's impossible?
the guy who wrote the synopsis is an absolute idiot... it is a good movie wich got a lot of good idea and is well acted...I loved it and I hate whoever wrote the synopsis her in fliter(buddy keep ur stupid idea for yourself)
