Few will accuse Spike Lee's Mo' Better Blues of being a masterpiece. But it's still full of the things that make Spike Lee films, well, Spike Lee films. Full of the fun, full of the spirit and good atmospheric characters.
Bleek! I love this movie!! As a former trumpet player, I always appreciated this soundtrack and attempted to play Mo' Better Blues every chance I got. Great movie!!
It had elements of jazz,a nd I like jazz music. Denzel and Wesley Snipes were very good in leading roles. The ending blew me away I had to keep rewinding it, the sex scenes were off the hook.
what an incredible movie. i dont care for spike lee's themes of racial distinction in most of his films, and some of it that was present in this film were annoying, but this film was too brilliant not to love. it has quickly become one of my favorite movies of all time. i tried to identify wether this was a film about love or music, and then i realized its not about either, its a memoir of a musician. i think i like this film more than most for musical reasons and not film reasons, because im such a HUGE jazz fan, but the movie was well made and well acted. the diologue and ending were not typical rehearsed hollywood, they were genuine. many scenes were pointless and didnt further the plot at all, and in this film it was a good thing. it made the characters more real. denzel was incredible as usual, but the entire cast with the exception of indigo was chosen perfectly. the music scenes were really great and because i know jazz, i know that the things that happen to denzels character in this film happen to jazz musicians all the time. i may not always care for spike lee, but he did a wonderful job on this film.
I am a big fan of Spike Lee so yesterday I went on Spike Lee trip watching as many of his movies as I could. This was a nice little movie I loved the music and Denzel was just great in it.
DENZEL MAKES YOU HATE HIM AND LOVE HIM ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I LIKED THE DRAMA BLEEK NEEDED TO LEARN A LESSON AND LIFE TAUGHT HIM ONE. BUT DID IT KILL HIS PASSION? WOULD HE STAY WITH ENDIGO IN THE YEARS TO COME AMD CONFORM
While the performances are good, the jazz music is great and the film's visual look is stunning. Sadly its way overlong, dull and the script is lacking in any substance or insight. This is a very disappointing and pointless film by writer/producer/director/co-star Spike Lee.
I love watching this movie just to pay attention to the editing and the camera moves. Spike has such style.Though not entirely a flawless direction. I do love the use of light and the colour with stark red and blues against the actors faces makes you feel like your always out in some club ( even when they are just in a bedroom ). Denzel Washington does a great job at showing the charms and the flaws of Bleek (spelling!?!).. Spike has a gift of having his background characters have such strong......character. It isn't a flawless movie but I still love it, I love the feeling of life that it has as it unravells and then fast forwards & of course the music.
I really didnt like the whole Spike Lee and Denzel getting beat up scene. It was just terribly filmed and I couldnt help but chuckle at it. I thought many parts were pretty laughable. Anyway, Spike Lee should do a better job at casting. This was just not a role for Wesley Snipes or for Denzel...or his damn sister. So, the story was bad, and I really didnt like the writing at all. F.
just plain enjoyable... if you like Jazz you will be in heaven, Miles, Cotrane, many more... I watched it just for the music which definitely enhances a quality film
A great film about love and jazz, this rates as one of Spike Lee's best films. With Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Joie Lee, Cynda Williams, Giancarlo Esposito, Bill Nunn, John & Nick Turturro, Samuel L. Jackson, Spike Lee, and Robin Harris (in his last motion picture), Mo' Better Blues is an underrated gem that hopefully one day will get the credit it deserves. " 'Cause the mo' better makes it mo' better."
