After a very slow and difficult transition, she returns to work, where being blind like the kids has its merits too. Then medical misery strikes Joe even harder: the jock gets a tumor, the operation costs his right eye, but he stays generally sick, and doesn't survive. Once again she picks up the pieces of her life, and in time finds a new partner from her past, high school friend Jim Brock, who is now a reputed butterfly-expert...
