The first and best of the MK movies. Its basically a continuous setup for various fights between popular characters but they do do them well and the characters do look good, Scorpion being the best hehe
The look is dark and kinda goth and it does match well against the game. The ...( read more)forest setting being a nice sequence and the Sub Zero v Scorpion battle. It is very shallow but it does the job well, which is rare for a computer game film. Tagawa and Lambert make the film really, they do inject some realistic feel into it and give it a much needed adult edge.
Best to forget about the Goro puppet creation.
    not bad though.....good soundtrack too.

Johnny Cage: We got a guy with things comin' out of his hands, we got another guy who freezes stuff, and then there's a man, who as far as I can tell, is made out of electricity. I mean, how did he disappear like that? What is goin' on here? WHO IS THIS GUY?
Sonya Blade: Let's ju...( read more)st think this through. There IS a rational explanation for all this.
Liu Kang: He's Rayden, god of lightning and protector of the realm of Earth.
Johnny Cage: Oh yeah. THERE'S your rational explanation!

I stand by in saying this is the best Video Game movie. It does the best job in capturing the spirit, style and tone of the games. It is full of some inventive action scenes, good enough fights, a great soundtrack, corny one liners, and terrible acting. All of these are exactly what I would ask for in a Mortal Kombat movie. It makes plenty of nods to the game, while keeping itself surrounded in a movie realm. Fast paced and a fun watch every now and again.

Johnny Cage: Those were $500 Sunglasses asshole!

Special recognition must go to Christopher Lambert, who provides one of the strangest performances during this time. It seems as if the crew of the film knows he isn't cool, but Lambert is so convinced that he is, that every delivery he has seems like his personal interpretation of what it means to be himself.

Lord Rayden: I have looked into their souls... and yours. One of you three with determine the outcome of the tournament. The fate of billions depends upon you. Heh, heh, heh!
    [resigned]
    Lord Rayden: Sorry.

The pure example of awful, it takes away 90 mins of your life that you wont get back. Bad story and bad characters, hell....what story and what characters

When this is considerated the "best" thing that can come out from video game movie adaptations, it's no wonder why things are the way they are these days. When you're trying to be as good as a mere filler/week end movie, your standards will always be low no matter what.

Oh yeah,...( read more) both Talissa Soto and Bridgette Wilson are in not enough movies these days.

Fun action film with decent photography and some good one-liners. Not the best, but a fun watch nonetheless.

A REALLY FUN MOVIE TO WATCH

A bad rendition of a classic video game. As expected it isn't going to bring great action or acting and in the end just ruining the image of a well known classic.

Like Street Fighter before it, I rewatched this movie wicked stoned recently, and while I zoned out several times during the duller bits, I have watched it enough times in the past to be able to group it with Street Fighter as symbolising all that was good about the early 90s and...( read more) my childhood.
While the acting was super lame, the martial artistry was very schweet; and while the special effects were pretty hokey, I wouldn't want them any different, and the awesome set designs, costumes and make-up all but made up for them.
One more thing, screw Raiden being God of Thunder (defender of Earth Realm), Christopher Lambert is God!!!
