Who knew McGregor could sing the balls off any of the entire cast?!?! Luhrmann again, at times, just picks some loud, pounding music. Wonderful on-screen chemistry between Kidman & McGregor. Leguizamo is adorable. I do love it, but seems Luhrmann's goal is to be more over-the-top than the previous film. For me, Strictly Ballroom still trumps both M.R. & R+J.
how can you not totally love this movie. "My little Strawberry!" Don't say you love this film but can't watch the end either, that just makes you a pansy!
I don't need you anymore! All my life you made believe I was only worth what someone would pay for me! But Christian loves me. He loves me! He loves me, Harold. And that is worth everything! We're going away from you, away from the Duke, away from the Moulin Rouge!
Directed by: Baz Luhrmann Starring: Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, Jim Broadbent, John Leguizamo, Richard Boxburgh
The MGM musicals of old get the steroid pumped into them, and the pop charts of the past 50 years get raided for this post-modern-yet-still-old-fashioned movie musical. Nicole Kidman has never been, and will never be, better than she is in this movie. She sings, dances, does comedy, and drama, and does them all well. The entire film rests on her delicate porcelain shoulders, and she rises above and beyond the challenge. The "Elephant Love Medley" is the triumphant and soaring scene where the leads declare their love for each other, and the amount of songs they fly through is quite amazing. From Dolly Parton to David Bowie to KISS, classic showtunes, Nirvana, Madonna -- every single genre gets a spin through the musical. The lesson? Music and art can express universal emotions, like love. And love is all you need.
Luhrmann is amazing, You could freeze-frame at any point in this movie and it would be a stunning piece of art. Excellent soundtrack, hilarious, witty, old romance, and Ewan McGregor at his best. Yes guys, its a musical, but give it a chance.
One of my fave movies, it's got great songs, beautiful singing and a lovely story. The actors all fit really nicely to their roles. The ending is sooooo sad, but the funny songs make up for the upsetting end. The song I most enjoyed was "Like a Virgin' because it was definitely the funniest, especially when they got the bad duke to sing a bit TOO high!!!!
Músicas excelentes, claro, versões adaptadas de já sucessos de bandas como Queen, The police, e Madonna. Muito bem feito. Sempre tem alguém pra cantar comigo The Elephant Love Medley.
Nicole Kidman deserved an Oscar for this film. The love story of the courtesan Satine and Christian, a penniless writer, will haunt you. I absolutely loved the film being set during the idealistic Bohemian Revolution. Who doesn't want to live for truth, beauty, freedom, and love? By far, this is Baz Lehrman's best work.
This movie had potential to be a 5 stars movie, however they ruined this opportunity when they introduced those effects of drawn band.
It's pity, I loved the argument. Good work from tha actors. Ewan, you were soooo cute!!
I love this movie. It's a classic love story, with imaginative and moving musical direction. Nicole Kidman and Ewan MacGregor sparkle. It loses a little luster after repeated viewings, but it's still a delightful, beautiful film.
This has to be one of the most touching love stories I've ever seen. And yes, I'm not ashamed to say that this musical is quite possibly the best musical I've ever seen. This is just a great movie that never gets old. A true love story.
The second best musical ever for me. Everything is magical and splendid, from the performances of the entire cast, not just Nicole Kidman's and Ewan McGregor's who are seen at the best roles of their careers, but even the secondary characters are beautifully constructed and none of them is one-dimentional. The direction is above grand and magnificent, the storyline complete and circular among other things and the soundtrack...well, the soundtrack IS the movie. And what makes this movie so exhilarating is the ending itself.
This is a story about love. Sweet lovestory with a forbidden love... and magnificent singing and dancing :) I really like the song called "Come what may" it makes you believe in love! :)
Wow. this is so over-the-top and not in the good way. The concept of having the mod. songs in a period piece makes senes but it just ugh. Costumes are cool but the rest is justcheap acting.
this film is absolutely bizzare the best song is the like a virgin one where the backing dancers are danging holding trays of jelly shaped like breats - I did say it was bizzare
Not too bad, I can't decide whether I liked it having the songs it did, wouldn't of hurt to make some new songs though I guess. I also got kind of confused, but then I wasn't paying attention most of the time.
