Meh, Frank Capra was ok i guess
Containing my joy at this film may or may not prove difficult. I suspected long ago that it would appear to my sensibilities, as it's the kind of manipulation I am inevitably happy to fall prey to. It is the essence of what being American means to Frank Capra and the essence of w...( read more)
Sooo good. I first watched this during my government class a couple of years ago. I've seen it many times since. James Stewart was amazing in my opinion. I've always loved his movies and this one was no different. His speech and breakdown at the end of the film always moves me.
Frank Capra is a very smart man and this movie is fascinating on so many levels.
One of the most inspiring films ever (after It Happened One Night.) Makes me believe in America.
Right up there with It's A Wonderful Life - just try not to be moved by Jeff' Smiith's speeches in the end. SO good.
We watched a bit of this. I wish we had finished it, because it was quite enjoyable.
My lack of unconditional reverence for the classics may make me sound ignorant, but the aging process has to be taken into consideration. Fuck all the AFI douches who haven't watched a new movie in 50 years.
Anyway, I thought this movie was interesting in concept, but didn't qui...( read more)
Jimmy Stewart (regular guy/grown up boy scout) gets elected senator by some big wigs so they can puppet him within congress to acheive their neffarious schemes. I'd probably enjoy this more if I had a passion for politics but to me it was a snoozer.
I am always iffy about watching old movies and such because I find it hard to be entertained by them; or more importantly, I can't relate to them... But this movie is as far away from that as possible. It truly is an AMAZING MOVIE!!! This movie immediately jumped up into (at leas...( read more)
Jean Arthur is so sexy. This film annoyed me during the Happy American propaganda montage, and I was sick of it by the time Saunders sheds a tear at Sen. Smith's idyllic boys' camp proposal. I did love the phrase "Christmas tiger", though.
A kinder, gentler pov on the legislature and our history. Thomas Mitchell gets a role with a bit of meat. Stewart is flawless in this movie. The ending is a trifle too quick.
Mile-a-minute yet sentimental. Great entertaining film that is timeless on a number of levels.
incase you didn't already know it, this movie proves that jimmy stewart was one of the greatest actors that ever lived and ever will live.
Excellent - I like the moral that one man is trying to do good while the other is crooked and making the good guy look really bad, until one breaks.
This is good. Watch it ... please! This is great! classic, old, but remains classic and love the old.
great preformace from jimmy stewart..... they made a remake if u want to watch the remake its called Mr. Deeds goes to town
Every lousy politician will probably say they've seen this and love it... but they sure don't GET IT. Ultimate pic about our government gone wrong... and this was made in 1939. 70 years later, we still haven't got it right.
I have no idea why James Stewart didn't win an Oscar for this movie - his performance is absolutely riveting. And the movie's quality is raised significantly because of it.
The true embodiment of good against evil. James Stewart is incredible in this.
Jimmy Stuart...one of the best delivers another brilliant performance.
The greatest Frank Capra film ever made, and that's saying something! Jimmy Stewart's best performance. If only the real senators could be so inspired.
One of the best films i have ever seen, James Stewart is marvellous. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere and energy
