Open City delves into the grimy world of organised pickpocketing. It makes a change from all those films on drugs and assassins. The fact that it could be argued that the crime isn't as bad, makes for more interesting relationships between the cops and criminals. It feels as though romance could blossom at any moment. The other plus is to show how crimes don't just affect victims, but also the families of the criminals. Kim and Son give two great performances and Son looks oh so beautiful for the entire film it becomes distracting, part of the point of her character. Though there's no scene ti rival big epic bank heists etc. The pickpocket scenes are interesting to watch and to see how they play out. Drags on and on towards the end and tries for a needless emotional mallet to the face, but overall this is the best pickpocketing related film since Oliver!
