Betsy Sherman, Boston Globe
The movie has a clever premise that will appeal to all ages!
-
Eleanor Ringel Gillespie, Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Teletubbies may come and go, but Muppets are forever.
-
Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune
Doesn't have the right awe and wonder!
-
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
The new Muppets movie lacks the kind of excitement the first ones generated.
-
Brian Orndorf, BrianOrndorf.com
In terms of Jim Henson-style wonderment and overall cleverness, "Muppets from Space" comes up short. It's entertaining enough, but lacks the magic the Muppets are so skilled at summoning.
-
Nell Minow, Common Sense Media
Plenty of jokes and mayhem to keep kids and parents amused.
-
Michael Dequina, TheMovieReport.com
A wild and funny tale.
-
James Plath, Movie Metropolis
Spielberg fans will appreciate allusions to Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T., but kids may wish that the film offered more space action.
-
Jeffrey Overstreet, Looking Closer
The Muppets are still a pure delight to watch, and this is the best post-Henson movie they've produced.
-
Chris Hewitt (St. Paul), St. Paul Pioneer Press
Witty, warm-hearted!
-
Karina Montgomery, Cinerina
"Fooll Preece-a Feetoore" says the Swedish Chef!

A case of the last good flick before the franchise lost its way, this is more fun Muppet mayhem but starting to lose their nack. The beginning sequence as all the Muppets wake up and have a good sing song is brilliant, show stopper for sure. Other nice moments include the 'Undercover Agency' with main baddie Jeff Tambor and his big dumb assistant 'Bobo the Bear' both of which are good for a laugh.
Lots of cameos, most of which aren't really needed I guess but as time progresses it seems the Muppets tend to rely on more big cameos as an attraction. I guess the plot for this is a little weak really, that's the problem, 'Gonzo' is a great Muppet but maybe we didn't need to see where he comes from and the fact he's an alien doesn't really fit for me, oh well.
This Muppet film just about holds my interest and just about delivers a decent addition to the Henson list. The laughs are OK and it looks reasonable if a little drab. For me they really should stick to adapting classic tales like they did with 'Treasure Island' and 'Christmas Carol'. There is also a lack of various other classic Muppets in this film, dunno why they decided to stick with just seven odd characters, guess that's why we have the big opening number to cover that eh.
Oh, dont forget 'Pepe' dressing in his tutu, classic :)

No, no, no... We didn't need or want to know that Gonzo is an alien. I love Gonzo, but I love him as the weirdo of the group, the one who doesn't belong, many of us identify with that. This movie says, oh guess what, Gonzo isn't weird at all, he belongs somewhere, and… More

This movie says, oh guess what, Gonzo isn't weird at all, he belongs somewhere, and if you identified with him before you were wrong about him. It made me really mad. This is the worst Muppets movie I've seen. Plus, it goes for all the stupid jokes that are supposed to make preteen boys laugh and no one else.

Though not being a personal fan favorite by many fans of the Muppets, I think it deserves more recognition than it has gotten. It delves into the past of my personal favorite Muppet, Gonzo, and the film is very creative, and of course very funny. Jeffrey Tambor does a great job as the villain agent who kidnaps Gonzo, and he comes off as being both a funny character, and a ruthless and horrible character. Also this is probably the Muppet movie that I quote the most, because a lot of the film's dialogue is so quotable and very funny, and to me it is the funniest of the Muppet films, but funniest doesn't mean it is my favorite.

Gonzo: "Hey, Rizzo, come here! I think my Kap'n Alphabet is sending me a message."
Rizzo the Rat: "Yeah, I know what you mean. I had some guacamole last night, and it's still speaking to me."

Sadly, I was expecting more.... I LOVED the old Muppet Movies that were so clever, but this was mainly directed at kid humor with not enough for adults to appreciate it. Sad, Muppets usually carry a huge potential.

It only really gets 4 stars for the fact it?s a Muppet film but it does have good gags and they tell their own story for a change but the music lets it down as do some of the new Muppets (Apart from Pepe, he is the best thing to happen to the Muppets in a long time) The DVD blooper… More

Muppets From Space just kind of does what every other aging, once-great kids show does--gets on whatever bandwagon is riding high at the time (in this case aliens) and relies heavily on C-list celebrity cameos. Muppets From Space also dares to answer the age old question "What the Hell is Gonzo Anyway?" with anticlimactic results. Well, anticlimactic for those of us who grew up on The Muppet Show. The good news is that despite the odd soundtrack and now-dated catchphrase usage this movie still has some entertaining and pretty funny moments and is nowhere nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. Either that or my 2 year-old daughter has seriously warped my tastes...

Pretty cute movie. Got to love The Muppets.
-
Not as good as the other Muppet movies. I was turned off by the lack of original songs.
Ok for the kids.

I've got this piece of jello ey?
-
Cute movie, Gonzo is tied for my favorite muppet with Fozzie.

The Muppets move from classic literature to sci-fi adventure in Muppets From Space. The film follows Gonzo's search to find out who he is and where he comes from after he seemingly receives a secret message from beyond. The series returns to the cameo format and features appearance by David Arquette, Ray Liotta, Kathy Griffin, and Andie MacDowell, among others. However, a lot of the Muppet brand of humor is missing; breaking the fourth wall, impromptu musical numbers, etc. In fact, the music in the film is completely uncharacteristic of the Muppets, it's all retro pop music instead of original song and dance numbers. There's fun and laughs to be had in Muppets From Space, but it's not true to the Muppet formula of comedy or to the characters themselves.

A strange film to make after A Christmas Carol and Treasure Island. The film that finally reveals what the Great Gonzo really is. Hum...it's called Muppets From Space and Gonzo looks like an alien...I wonder what he could be. A revelation that was unnecessary and definitely unsurprising causes the film to be exclusive only to Muppet enthusiasts. A few humourous scene from Pepe (the best of the generation 2 Muppets that came from the short lived Muppets Tonight) cannot carry a tiresome screenplay and lack of enjoyment or emotion from the otherwise colorful characters. The franchise went into a 12 year dormant stage (a few TV/DVD films not withstanding) after this misstep.

Muppets from Space isn't nearly as good as the other Muppet features, but with a few fun scenes and a lighthearted feel, it is still a cute movie. Kids, however, will be hoping for more space action. Overall Rating: 62

It wasn't the greatest muppet movie, but it still delivered - offering up laughs and funny celebrity guest spots.

The Henson Company is so good at what they do! The Muppet's have been a fixture in homes for the last 20+ years and this is one of the essential Muppet adventures! So many great cameos, and this is so well written and funny. Every single Muppet movie is so well thought out, detailed, and acted that I am surprised that they aren't more loved and treasured. This is a very special film and should be in everyone's film library.

I love the Independence Day references in this movie.

You can't go wrong with the Muppets and especially Gonzo the Great.
