My Mom's New Boyfriend is a train wreck of a film. Colin Hanks has been away busting bad guys for the FBI for three years while his mother (Meg Ryan) changes her attitude into a complete 180 of how she used to be. Hanks comes home (apparently he was trying to bust Osama Bin Laden because they haven't talked for three years) to find his mothers new wild ways while introducing his fiance (Selma Blair who is vying for the William Hurt over exposure award this year). Along the way mom meets Antonio Banderas char cter Tommy, who the FBI are looking at as an art thief. Hanks is put in charge of the task force against Tommy and that's when the hilarity ensues.

So why's this movie a train wreck? Never mind the the taped together plot and the worst plot twist in the end the film is pretty much Colin Hank's character being disgusted at his mothers behavior for 90 minutes. That's it. The problem is that's where most of the comedy comes from and you tire of it after the first half hour.

A rather dry film that doesn't really solve anything except showing how not to throw a plot twist in at the last minute. Casey Jones was driving this one.

This movie is not at all what I was expecting. There was no reason for anything that happened. They tried cramming too much story into this plot and everything was disjointed. It was kind of cute and had a happy ending so that was good - otherwise it would have been a complete waste.

I like Meg Ryan..so Im biased anyway! Really enjoyed Colin Hanks in the role as the son...and Megs 'freak out' on the front stairs is funny...Enrico's chef character keeps the movie light, even towards the end when it starts to go from comedy to drama...

This movie was actually pretty good, it had some really funny parts. And it had some interesting parts, but I would definately recommend you watch it. Besides Selma Blair is not only a great actress but she is definately extremely hot....

This is an avarage movie that I watched only because Antonio Banderas is in the cast. Meg Ryan and him have not any chemistry and the script has nothing new.

Lame in all perspectives. Everything is forced, unfunny and poorly written.
Little redeeming qualities- avoid where possible

Good actor in poor script. Doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy or a heist film. Would have been better with a cast of unknowns. Honestly how many FBI agents have lamanated badges at all times?

This is just one of those Ok movies that you could see or not see and it wouldn't matter because it was just an average movie. It will keep your interest but it won't be anything that you would want to watch numerous times. One thing I did notice was that Meg Ryan sure has had a lot of plastic surgery lately. It definitely shows in the movie. Colin Hanks was kind of witty in the film and was the actor who really stands out. If you see it then you will see it is just an Ok movie and if you don't then it's not a problem because it's not something you will just have to see.

I had high hopes for this. I desperately want a Meg Ryan romantic comedy come-back flick. And the rest of the cast seems promising. Antonio Banderas has proven his versatility early on and has had successes in this genre. And I'm rooting for Colin Hanks to turn out like his father, someday. The problem with this film is not the cast really. It's the script. There's not much for these actors to work with. Attempts at comedy turn out to be flat and boring. Some just over-the-top-ridiculous.

The premise could have worked. It's an interesting concept. Unfortunately, it needed a better writer. And director. Halfway through the film, you will feel helpless yourself. And all I wanted was another good-old Meg Ryan romantic comedy.

Colin Hanks mother (Meg Ryan) loses weight and has suddenly become the hottest mom on the block dating every sort of guy imaginable.
When she starts dating Antonio Banderas, a suspect art theif, Colin starts spying on his mother on behalf of the FBI. Well, he works for the FBI so, it's not on there behalf at all. It's just a job.
The movie is amusing in an uninspired sort of way, with a twist can be seen coming a mile away because all the situations in this movie have been done before. Like years before.
Still, the cast is likeable enough and the movie feels like a saturday morning cartoon. Well, the humor in it does.
If you like your movies aiming to be average, then check this one out.

i found this entertaining ... funny but forced... i was more smitten by antonio's performance as his type cast "smooth sexy man with accent"... meg distracted me with her lips and colin could pass of as meg son only if her and tom hanks had a love child... colin does great but somehow i feel he's channeling his father and hasnt quite found his own... selma blair, also typecasted, did well nothing spectacular for a role no one really pays attention to.. it was amusing yet if it werent for antonio it would have really been BLAH.

Meg Ryan is really hot and hilarious as a wacky mother with relationship problems in the zany secret agent farce movie. I really liked her acting that made me laugh so much as well as Antonio Banderas was.

This was cute. It started out pretty good...but I have to say Meg Ryan needs to hang it up...she was so fake and absolutely not convincing. Colin Hanks is dang talented and I can so see him go all the way like his Dad...good for him. Selma and Antonio were really good too, a little to predictable but ok.

A good comedic spy flick. Colin Hanks is the spitting image of his father and very funny as the son who has to spy on his mom because her new boyfriend is an art thief. Seems formulaic at times, but the ending proves it is not.

Slightly below average comedy, but good entertainment for a Friday evening on the couch. Meg really does not look well after all the botox and face lifts. It is a pity as I think she would have looked much better without all the aids. Oh, and the movie also goes by the names My Spy and Homeland Security, but I think the last one, is the DVD shop botching up the name.

it was actually pretty smart humor. I liked it. Though it kind of lulled at the middle because the plot seemed to be trying to squeeze in too much humor at once.

Instead of packing her son up for college, as the film opens the overweight (cue the questionably tasteless fat suit), perpetually junk food eating, soda drinking and cigarette smoking clingy mother Martha Durand (Meg Ryan) bids her ambitious, devoted son Henry (Colin Hanks) farewell for his new, top secret work with the F.B.I. Having lost a husband who'd perished in jail, our first clue that old Martha likes herself a bad boy, she's devastated to lose her surrogate "man," but even more shocked when she's mistaken for a bum by a passerby so, urged to change her ways and make a second start, she makes a fortune in stocks, slims down to a sexy model stature from her two-hundred fifty plus pound size, buys herself some silicone implants, and renames herself Marty. Ditching her old frumpy Martha persona, the choice of a masculine name for our leading lady isn't lost on astute viewers as Henry returns three years later to discover his mom is acting like a twentysomething frat-boy gone wild-- bed and motorcycle hopping at will, with an Italian chef serenading her nightly on her front lawn to dating a boy who drinks milk straight from the carton and leaves Marty's place just in time to make it to his finals. Predictably, Henry's alarmed to discover this new version of Marty as basically a one-dimensional Cosmopolitan Magazine cover come to life and it throws their relationship completely out of whack when not only Henry introduces his mom to his F.B.I. psychological profiling colleague fiancé Emily (Selma Blair) but soon after, Marty meets cute with an ultimate bad-boy in the form of mysterious, probable international art thief Tommy (Antonio Banderas). For simply the sake of the preposterous plot instead of any actual logic, Henry is assigned the task of staking out his mother without her knowledge, bugging her home and keeping tabs on her new love. My Mom's New Boyfriend has its hands full dealing with Marty and Henry's flat-out creepy relationship. So paranoid is Henry about seeing his mom with another man and having dominance in her life, the character's personality skedaddles way past being just an uptight G-man and into ickier territory usually reserved for Jerry Springer's show. It doesn't help that Hanks doesn't seem to be having the least bit fun or that Meg Ryan delivers a painfully over-the-top turn as Marty. Faring better are Banderas and Selma Blair, who, as Henry's fiance, has absolutely no purpose in the story except to show off how great she looks in lingere. There's a light twist at the end so everybody can be happy.

This movie just fails at everything it wants to be. It's not funny, it's not inspirational, it's not anything. There is no reason to watch this piece of drivel other than to watch Colin Hanks, Antonio Banderas and Meg Ryan at their worst, most wooden you will ever see them.
