The book was great. The film, not so much. It feels like some schmaltzy God awful TV movie. Cassavetes has no faith in his actors or script. Rather than rely on them to bring forth the emotional punch necessary, he decides that he isn't a film-maker, but a DJ instead. Playing som...( read more)e terribly bland and soul destroying piece of acoustic shit. I didn't come here for a selection of terrible music videos. He also has a way of shooting every scene with bright light coming through the windows, creating nauseating orange glows, EVERYWHERE! The performances may have been good. It's impossible to judge them through Cassavetes' inept storytelling. Baldwin's lawyer, the most interesting character in the book, is sidelined and as a final insult the ending changes the entire tone and message of the story. Such a great premise was squandered here.

Well done. Heartbreaking, but you know that before going in so you can wrap your head around it and deal.

To start with i did not know much about this movie apart from what my wife told me.So i went in with a fresh head and at least i could not comparing the film to book.Must start by saying that this is not my normal cup of tea and would normal wait for dvd or even sky for this, but ...( read more)to start with the actors are so good in this that i can not say a bad word on any of there performance, maybe only that one or two get less screen time then some others thats all.Yes its a tear jerker but with so many of them having the big payoff at the end this one is all the way through with the help of flashbacks made by characters telling their story which leads them to the present.Yes this may not by everyone taste but its a worth while movie, again with outstanding performances and anther great director turn for Nick cassaveres.

Earnest tearjerker about a girl who, genetically created as a bone-marrow donor for her cancer stricken sister, sues her parents for the rights to her own body. Manipulative drama is emotionally involving, but it's too superficial to properly deal with the interesting moral and ...( read more)ethical questions it raises. The soundtrack of light adult contemporary rock that plays every time something important happens, undermines the quiet power of every scene. And the final courtroom revelation is a cop out which negates the entire film.

The combination of a Jodi Pilcout (best-selling, cheesy) novel and a Cameron Diaz leading role is unforgivable. Nick Cassavetes is very known for the over-dramatic movies he makes, but this one definitely exceeds all imaginations. I like movies that say: "you know, I'm not a mast...( read more)erpiece by any chance, but you can bet I'll make you cry." And I have to admit that out of the 109 minutes of its duration, I was crying at the 100.

I loved Sofia Vassilieva's performance most of all -she's an actress I had never encountered before and she was great. All others do an okay job -although refraining from mentioning Cameron Diaz. Not Cassavetes' best direction, but decent enough for his standards.

A mediocre-to-good film about humanity, family, love and the choices we have to make in life.

A touching movie of sisters' love for each other and their family. A story of hope, healing, sacrifice, courage, letting go and moving on.
