Dean Andrews, Emily Blunt, Kathryn Sumner, Nathalie Press, Paddy Considine, Paul Antony-Barber

Two 16-year olds spending one long, hot English summer together in Yorkshire. Mona is a tough Northern lass whose spiky exterior hides an untapped intelligence and a yearning for something beyond the ...( read more  read more... )emptiness of her daily life. Tamsin is well educated, cynical and spoiled, and, unlike Mona, incapable of love. At first Mona and Tamsin's distinctly opposite cultures, backgrounds and characters cause them not to understand or trust each other, but gradually these differences lead to mutual fascination and attraction. Added into the volatile mix is Phil who, despite his troubled past, has now found divine love which he hopes will save himself and Mona.

It's a summer shared between two teenage girls from different sides of the track. Mona, the main character lives in a pub with her brother who has closed it down and made it a place of worship. One day, she meets Tamsin, a rich girl who is home for the summer from private school....( read more) They spend just about every moment together and become so involved with one another that they start up an intimate relationship. The ending turns out a bit twisted, which made the film.

A very sweet and gentle film with plenty to think about and plenty to look at. Great cast and beautifully shot!

Superbly acted, movingly written, and directed with a tough-minded lyricism rarely found today. Pawel Pawlikowski has crafted a moody and disturbing love story of manipulation and betrayal with a smattering of spare parts. To call this film a lesbian love story, or a coming-of-ag...( read more)e film, would be unforgivably reductive. Pawlikowski has made a gorgeously ambiguous film. Emily Blunt and Natalie Press are both fabulous.

i really enjoyed this. some fine performances from the young actors. Captures the beauty and, sometimes, ruthlessness of youth.

    Directed by: Pawel Pawlikowski.
Starring: Emily Blunt, Nathalie Press, Paddy Considine, Dean Andrews.

Tamsin: 'If you leave me, I'll kill you.'
Mona: 'If you leave me, I'll kill you....and then I'll kill myself.'

Its a film I have come to admire, the...( read more) direction by Pawel Pawlikowski is one highlights of the film in which it is done with such a natural grace, you notice for the first 10 minutes of film how simple it all appears, like its shot on a very cheap camera, but you lose yourself in the movie after that and it is somehow hypnotic. It also delivers extraordinary performances from its leads that you forget how independent the film really is and are so absorbed by the quality of the script, how charming and romantic and can be and how silently powerful in moments it is.

Only downside of the film is its sudden ending, it does answer all questions and doesn't leave you in the dark, but you do expect something a little more then the way it suddenly ended. A charming, hypnotic film that is never trashy or graphic, but silently powerful and charming.

Tamsin: If you leave me, I'll kill you.
Mona: If you leave me, I'll kill you... and then I'll kill myself.

These roles were brought to life by Emily Blunt and Nathalie Press. The movie was shot in the beautiful Yorkshire and told us the story of growing pains and confused teenager feelings. Paddy Considine role was great, a reborn Christian, and he did a great job in playing that role.
