The conclusion is uneasy and doesn?t sit well. This is an overrated film with a puzzling message.

Directed by Clint Eastwood and boasting an all star cast of some of Hollywood?s most talented Actors. This is Hollywood minus the Hollywood glint, it?s down to earth, believable, with some impressive performances all around, in particular, Tim Robins, Sean Penn and Marcia Gay Ha...( read more)rden.

This Murder mystery, turned vigilante storyline is tough, raw and deeply personal.

The brilliance of the film is that it doesn?t just build to a climatic ending, there are some pretty big things that happen throughout the film that make a huge impact.

One of my favourite films that I have watched over and over.

"We bury our sins here" The Mystic River. A long stretch of water that separates Bostons underbelly from it's other blue collar counterparts, like an extended roll of police tape. It's the end of the line for some of the neighborhoods inhabitants. It's also the title of this grip...( read more)ping, emotionally scared, crime drama, based on Dennis Lehane's best seller. It starts with 3 inseparable friends playing hockey, who are always managing to shoot their balls down a near buy sewer. As dark and unknown as the crevasse of the sewer hole, also is the fate of one of these boys, who has been taken away by 2 strange men in suits, posing as police officers. The car pulls off, as the 2 friends left behind, watch in disarray. The premise, for this story of 3 friends, separated by a life changing occurrence, where Dave Boyle, played by Tim Robbins, is left forever changed himself. The story revolves around these 3, years later, as a set of unfortunate circumstances brings them together, and they resist-fully try to look to each other for answers.
Clint Eastwood is masterful at displaying the male agenda with it's tough exteriors and dominating presence. Yet, the smooth and tactful dialogue and immaculate story line is an understudy to the larger than life performances givin mostly by Sean Penn, who conveys the real struggle and pain, from not only losing his daughter, but shows in his hardened posture and unforgiving eyes, the constrictive criminal lifestyle he once lead. But, with his unrelinquished street mentality still sharply in tact, his pain soon transcends into immediate need for revenge. With the help of 2 neighborhood thugs, who are Jimmy's (Sean Penn) right hand men, at his every beck and call, they soon collect enough information that will go beyond accusation, in an act of swift punishment. There are 2 different ways for justice to be served, and this film studies them both. This movie is not about good vs. evil but more about good vs. evil within the characters, and plays a vital part in how the story unfolds.
