Heath Ledger really shines in what turns out to be quite an entertaining and touching movie. The film-makers have really done an excellent job in recreating Australia of the late 19th century, and thus watching the movie allows the viewer to become completely immersed in the story of ned and his gang. The score is beautiful too.
I wanted to see this for so long (mainly cause it had Emily in it) I was afraid I might end up not liking it in the end. But of course in the end I loved everything about it, though it only had Emily in it for about a total of 2 minutes throughout.
I love the story of Ned Kelly. Before watching this movie I read up on some of the history, but seeing it played out like this was the best way I can think of to learn the story.
It's about a man named Ned Kelly who is fed up with police brutality and forms a gang which robs banks and picks fights with English police (basically). and it all leads to one of the more impressive last stands I have ever seen.
Very well done film about the oppressed Irish under Queen Victoria's colonies in Austrailia. It should have had a little bit more of the history though. But nicely written, shot, acting was good, and a decent ending.
A fine movie depicting the life of outlaw Ned Kelly. The late Heath Ledger is on top form here in the the leading role - sporting a great Irish accent. The supporting actors aren't really given that much to do to be fair. Orlando Bloom's charcter probably does the most with Geoffrey Rush and Naomi Watts given little screen time to truly shine.
Im a fan of both Heath Ledger (RIP) and Orlando Bloom but this wasnt as good as I thought it would be... But then again Im not really a fan of Aussie Movies ...
Even though I'm sorry about Heath, I can't give this a good rating. It was soooo boring. Nothing happened!! They just talked. And talked some more. Ugh.
wow seen this film for the 1st time n thought its pretty kewl...its a shame heath ledger has sadly died :( :( he was a very good talented actor......this is a true story bout an australian outlaw..the gun shoot=outs were funn. the fight scenes were really good i think that geffory rush plays a good part in this movie..i was impressed by every1's performance of acting in this movie....i think naomi watts is just so sexxxi :):D the scenery was really good n it has a good story line throughout the movie its got a good cast of characters throughout
Government corruption. Hatred of new immigrants, in this case the Irish (who didn't fare that well in the USA at the time either). The story (based on real events - in Australia) is like a mix of Robin Hood (for the local citizens) and Jesse James (for the "government").
A true story set in Australia about four outlaws against a corrupt Victorian government. It was really sad how it ended. The picture was great, the landscape and all was beautiful. Orlando Bloom was great like always but I don't think he really fit his part. He and Heath Ledger were great together though. Heath Ledger was an incredible actor. Yes, this movie was sad but watching Heath on the screen again was sadder. We'll all miss him.
Heath... We'll miss you forever, you were one of the best and versatile actors of our generation... I've seen this movie on dvd numerous times, but this monday, like an omen or something, the dvd wouldn't play...and the next day that horrible news... jeez just can't believe it that he's gone...
Heath Ledger Will live on i havent watched the movie but i know that ill love it

RIP Heath LEdger

This movie does a lot of justice, I was impressed but talk about depressing. If you couldn't hate the meretriciousness of the law any more this makes sure you do.
Although described as an epic, and despite desperate attempts to achieve such status, 'Ned Kelly' never quite reaches brilliant film-making on that sort of scale. Throughout the course of the film we sense that that is what it wants to be, but the director just isn't quite sure of what to do to make it as such. So instead we are left with a B-grade of the genre, even though there isn't such a thing - an epic is an epic - isn't it? Heath Ledger becomes the heroic protagonist but never quite seems to know what he's doing, although the simple script helps him out for the most part. There's some nice action and attempts at sensitivity and realism work for the most part. The main problem is the romance between Ledger and Naomi Watts - it's far too sudden and the director doesn't even attempt to make us believe in its genunuity - no convincing or persuading. It's just presented and the audience are forced to accept it, but can't. Geoffrey Rush too is sorely underused as the police captain, a role he would have manifested brilliantly would the script allow it, but he still does his best. The finale has a lot more impact than most of the film, and while exciting and full of action is also rather spirited - which is quite of touch with the rest of the film.
Actually the only reason for me to see this one was Orlando and Heath, and the first I thought it was boring. But in the end it turned to be a good movie. The acting is great. The story is very good.
its great.... fair amount of blood and violence... its kind of sad but well recomended... orlando bloom and heath ledger are extreamely awesome in this movie.....
Ned Kelly is a decent movie. Nothing to set the world on fire. But it is still good. The stroy is cliche but done in a competent way. Heath is great as Ned, the tortured outlaw. Everything else is pretty okay, except the ending which was pretty damn good.
