Another Police Story movies and another hit from what was a good trilogy. This though is the darkest and best directed when it comes to following a plot and not relying on only comedy and stunts action.

The plot isn't exactly special and maybe even a bit comic, like Battle Royale in a sort of way but it works out better as a film to follow.

Jackie Chan trys to act here and you can tell that he is trying hard. He did well, maybe sometimes over the top or maybe because we are not used to him acting in that sort of way? It's hard to say.

The story is based on Chan going through a dark phase in his life. He lost all his team force and become a hopeless drunk. Than a young kids, who we don't know anything about till the end, comes into his life to rais him back from the demise he is in and to stop the group of youngsters behind the horrible deaths of his colleagues.

This was obviously more modern than the last two Police Story movies and it kind of follows more on the new generations in asia regarding games and respect within the youth etc... so it works out better on its own. It doesn't really work out with the other two due to them being more of a comic action movies rather than a dark serious crim story drama. However, this is an entertaining movie and has good things going for it.

Kinda good, but if it weren't for Jackie, I wouldn't have watched it in the first place.
I think it would've been better it I got to see the real version with their Chinese voices.

For Chan's true fans, this has got to be one of his most eagerly awaited films since 'Drunken Master 2' a decade ago. Much has happened since then, including his disappointing outings in Hollywood, not to mention his clearly deteriorating physical condition (he is over 50 now!). As a result, I have learnt to reign in my expectations a little, as I know we will never see another film to rival the original 'Police Story' or the aforementioned 'Drunken Master 2'. Consequently, I went into this film hoping, but not expecting, something to make up for recent disappointments. Thankfully, this is what I got.
Although this film has Police Story in the title, it is never meant to fit into the original saga's timeline. It truly is a "New" Police Story in that it is a reinvention of the Hong Kong Cop Hero movie and not a remake or sequel. I am quite glad for this, as although I would dearly love to see the character of Chan Ka Kui return to the screen, I know deep down that nothing could live up to the original 2 movies so why set yourself up for a fall?
What we get instead is a modern day Hong Kong movie together with the bright OTT characters, short fight sequences and CGI aided special effects that are synonymous with the industry these days. Added to this is something that has been lacking from some of the bigger budget HK output recently ? namely a bit of emotion.
Chan plays Inspector Wing, a senior officer in the HK Police, and is famous for his success. Unfortunately, a group of bank robbers bring his impressive track record to a spectacular end, culminating in the deaths of many fellow officers. As a result, Wing blames himself and turns to alcohol, pushing away all those close to him. Almost a year after this disaster, a police transferee, Frank (Nicholas Tse), arrives on the scene without warning and forces his way into Wing?s life, pushing him back into action to get those responsible.
It's great to see Chan take on a serious role once again, and at times this movie reminded me of earlier classics 'Crime Story' and 'Police Story 2'. Comedy moments are brief, but one in particular where Wing and Frank try to escape from the police station undetected had me laugh out loud. Otherwise, Chan plays it straight, and some of the scenes are genuinely emotional and raw.
In terms of action, there is not a great deal of hand-to-hand combat. What little on offer is neatly choreographed and expertly executed, as one would expect. There is some use of wires, but this is not a new thing, and contrary to popular belief Chan has used them for years to enhance kicks and impact reactions. Thankfully, there is little noticeable doubling proving that Jackie can indeed still bust a move. The rest of the action sequences are typical gunplay and pyrotechnic sequences, which cannot be avoided if you?re making a modern day actioner. All in all, the action is good, but if that's all you want to watch the film for then you may end up disappointed.
The point of any review is essentially to let the reader know if a film is worth watching and if it would appeal to them. On these counts I would say that the film is undeniably well made and polished. The performances from all parties are excellent, and Jackie has reinstalled a little faith in me that he is still capable of making a good action movie. Therefore, I recommend to it to all of JC's fans as well as those who like a well-made action film. To those who want to see another Police Story to rival the original, then I suggest you stop waiting, be realistic, and just enjoy the films he is making... like this one.

My biggest complaint about New Police Story is that it contains the words "Police Story" in its title, while this movie is nothing like the classic Police Story films. In its attempt to create a dramatic storyline and tragic hero, it simply made me laugh, AT the film, not with it. A handful of decent fight scenes and stunts can't save this one from subsequent viewing.

very different for a jackie chan film. it was filmed with very intense dramatic scenes and scenes in which jackie chan was forced to cry and show all sorts of different emotions. i didnt really like all gun fights and would have rather seen jackie do some old fashion fist to fist fights but overall the characters and fights scenes were very well thought out and vey well designed!

I wish I could watch every movie ever made but I sadly don't have the time. I'm not interested in this movie because I don't think I'll like it or don't know enough about it to think I might like it. I may still end up seeing it some day though.

A great new chapter in the police story story! The group of villains are a little unbelievable, if not a bit comic book like, but Inspector Chan always gets his men!

i liked this movie and it was cool seeing a more serious side to jackie that you really dont see often in his movies he was quite emotional at times making you feel really bad for him so it was really good when he gets his stuff together and goes after the ones who caused him so much trouble and the ones being this gang of young punks who i think were cool themselves so it made this movie interesting to watch

A darker movie than one associates with JC... Although there are funny moments and the usual bloopers after the movie ends. Worth a watch.

Not as good as the original. I got a bit bored watching this film and Jackie Chan's part was very small....the film focused mainly on the young characters.

The most serious of all the Police Story's by far. Jackie gets to show everyone that he can act as well as kick ass. Speaking of ass-kicking, anyone who thinks he's to old can't of seen this film. He still moves just as quick as he did 10 years ago, still does the most insane stunts, and his fight scenes are still of such a high standard that it seems as if he'll never grow old and hang up his kung fu slippers.

This really is completely different from the other Police Story films. None of the original cast return, which is a shame, but Nicholas Tse is perfect in his role as Jackie's new partner.

Ok so the bad guys are a bit lame (computer game cop-killing? Ooookkkk.......) but hey, you can't have everything. ^_^

This is definitely one of the more serious efforts I have seen out of Jackie Chan when it comes to his modern films. There are deaths aplenty and some serious issues that I never thought I'd see Jackie tackle. Daniel Wu is especially good as the troubled young guy that leads the band of ruthless troubled youths. I enjoyed that they didn't need to resort to the usual comedy of Chan and were able to keep it serious throughout. I think this deserves a watch.

Here's the scoop: The greatest cop squad in town has Inspector Wing(jackie chan) who faces a group of rich cop-haters because they're misunderstood by their parents. So all their crimes turned into x-box games. So then Wing fails the mission. 1-2 years he got despress, until a young man (whom Wing had rescue when the boy was a boy) had lied his police i.d. to help Wing on feet..Then the squad found clues on the games to solve their crime locations. After that, there was an happy ending of Wing's girlfriend marrying him.
