Epic! Simply epic! I mean, yeah, the book was better, because it was more about the character and their development and strungles than about the action. The movie was the opposite, the characters weren't as developed. Still, it was funny, sweet, beautiful, enjoyable and though they changed lots of things from the book they didn't mess them up. They were smart about it and thats something we usually don't get when we watch a movie after reading it's book. Michael Cera and Kat Dennings were pitch perfect on their roles. Aaron Yoo as Thom (with an H) was fantastic, sometimes even better than the Cera and Dennings themselves. Yoo and the other gay boys blew me away. I loved them sooooooo much, they were the funniest. The music of the movie was excellent, the settings, the dialogues, EVERYTHING was absolutely perfect in it. I adored it!
I love Kat Dennings. Since Charlie Bartlett I have been sold on her. It just too bad they cast Michael Cera opposite. I mean come on people. He can?t act. He is just playing himself on the screen. Have you ever seen an interview with the guy? "Arrested Development," "Superbad," "Juno." He is the same as he is in real life. ::Sigh::
The movie, though, was quite entertaining. A strong cast of relatively unknown ancillary characters and a great soundtrack put the movie over the top.
~Worth the matinee price of admission.
A bit down played yet easy to watch... was entertaining.
its the whole night in the life of... without the sugary teen-ness to swallow. truely loved it.
This is fantastic!!! There is nothing else to say for this movie. It has everything - the romances, the twit getting abandoned by the river, Jesus and pantsless altar boys, music, drunk chicks, and a really nasty piece of gum. (You have to watch this yourself to understand the gum.)
"I don't want to be the goodie bag at your pity party'"! Loved this movie! The soundtrack was awesome! The characters were excellent, especially The Jerk-offs aka Fist full of Asses.
Spend a night with the newly met Nick and Norah as they not only search for a band's secret show, but also for a friend who has gone on a drunken daze through NYC, and for love. ... Along the nightly adventure, you will laugh, feel for the characters, and be very glad you decided to see this movie. ... Michael Cera is perfect as a lovable dork who gets the girl.
Not great. Not horrible. Michael Cera is stuck in the same role. He's cute & sweet, but I'd like to see him do something else. Kat Dennings was find. I'm not a huge fan or her acting I guess. She was alright in "Charlie Bartlett.
Nothing shocking about this movie. A couple funny one liners. I was still happy @ the end when the two of course ended up together, even though we knew that was what would happen.
Enjoyed the soundtrack though. My kind of music :)
The whole "we're really awkward and shy and make dorky jokes and that makes us endearing and cute" thing is getting really tiresome. It's like every movie put out today has the same character... always some shy, awkward kid who becomes the hero. Now, I am not saying that's necessarily a bad alternative; I'd much rather see more down-to-earth people in "Hollywood" becoming a popular thing. However, the character has now been so overused that I can spot it within the first 5 seconds of a movie trailer! There are also so many other typical things about this film that it just seems like there must be some kind of factory that pumps out these types of movies once every few months and tries to change them enough so that the audience won't notice how similar it was to the last one. But for me, it was just another typical flick which really strived to be unique, but didn't achieve. I am also afraid that Michael Cera may never be able to break free from the loveable shy-guy role and be taken seriously in any other type of role- especially if he keeps doing movies like this.
Gotta say -- not up to my expectations. Good cast and such, but not exactly "fantastic." The Fender towards the end MUST have brought this rating up by at least like . . . a star.
omg i love this movie!!! i usually dont like movies that michael cera is in, but i love this one! it was hilarious. they all have such good chemistry, it makes the movie so much fun to watch i didnt want it to end!
The expectation walking in was an entertaining teenage slice-of-life romance story with a good soundtrack. To it's credit, Nick and Norah does manage to deliver that, but it certainly doesn't stand out from the genre in any way.
Poor casting, or perhaps a poor script, does the film in. Michael Cera is almost invisible in a movie which gives him top billing and Kat Dennings is an unlikeable female lead. Ari Graynor as the drunk best friend is just atrocious, although I don't think anyone could salvage that role. Just horrible. On the other end of the spectrum, Nick's friends, all gay members of his band, are thoroughly entertaining. Aaron Yoo in particular does this kind of best friend role a lot, and really should be given the opportunity to do more.
Otherwise, it's one of those annoying films to review in that it's not necessarily bad, but just completely forgettable and underwhelming.
I was surprised that I liked this. On a technical note I found the cinematography to be brilliant they used a great stock. It seemed like a toned downed Harold and Kumar. To me that isn't a bad thing.
Yet again, Michael Cera ruined a movie for me. People rave about this guy like he's the Second Coming of the Comedic Christ, but I just don't see it. I read reviews that this was Cera's breakthrough performance, and despite my being a notorious Cera critic, I decided to see what he's got.
Guess what? He's just as wooden and lifeless as Hayden Christensen, maybe even more so. To be honest, this movie would have been much better if Michael "Black Hole of Personality" Cera wasn't in it.
It's a shame that Cera ruined the movie for me, because other than him, it was a pretty solid teen flick. I give it major kudos for being so edgy for a movie aimed at the younger teen crowd, what with all the sex jokes and vulgarity. I could feel the parents in the theater squirm uncomfortably, especially during the orgasm bit.
My favorite part of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist was Kat Dennings and her portrayal of Norah. Yes, I'm a little biased because I think she's smoking hot, but in all honesty I think she is a good actress with plenty of potential to get better. Dennings played into the whole rock-and-roll-Romeo-and-Juliet vibe well. It's a shame about her co-star, but whatever. Hopefully this film will help her springboard into better roles and movies. All in all, if you like cutesy teenage love stories set against the backdrop of music and big cities, you'll probably like Nick and Norah. Give it a shot if Cera's acting doesn't bother you.
Nora: Wow, your hair is really...soft. Nick: Yeah, I asked for the Ellen Degeneres.
Similar to another movie I just reviewed, this is another standard romantic comedy that tries to disguise itself as something else. Here it tries to place itself deep into the indie rock music scene in order to feel like its not within the realm of cliches. Too bad.
Michael Cera is Nick, a guitar playing, nice enough, high school senior, who has been dumped by his girlfriend Tris, the kind of bitch who you wonder how she got with him to begin with, let alone why would he like her beyond looks, when he's smart enough to see who she is.
Kat Dennings is Nora, a nice enough, tightly wound girl, who happens to be acquaintances with Tris and loves the mix CDs that her ex-boyfriend (whom she doesn't know is Nick) makes for her.
Nick and Nora meet at a club, and due to mixed circumstances they form a sort of bond and end up having to hang out with each other for the night as they partake in misc. activities, including searching for their drunk friend and attempting to locate a band that plays in secret locations. Will these two get together?
Nick: Well you're two penises short of a Shania Twain reimagination band!
To the movie's credit, the leads are good with what they have to do. Cera continues to play the awkward but lovable teen and Dennings is natural enough with her part. With a focus on indie rock, the soundtrack will appeal to the kind of crowd that would want to see this movie, and it is fitting. However, the movie seems so much like it wants to impress its audience with its song choices that it almost seems arrogant.
The movie also drags, and at 90 minutes (including credits) that's not good. There was a point, which I believe must have been an hour in, because there was still a lot left apparently, that I thought the movie should and could have ended, but it kept going.
Pretty bland.
Nora: So all your friends in that van are gay. Nick: Yep, they're all gay. If anyone's gonna be raped in that van, it will be a guy
The playlist was great unfortunately the greatness of the film isn't infinite. You have two different couples, a drunk blonde and a van full of gay guys. These teenage love stories that take place over the time frame of several hours are common. I feel the film had something to say about modern teenage relationships and hinted at it numerous times with the portrayal of certain types of people. The message was only transmitted half way and the rest is lost on me. I don't know rather to embrace the unlikely connection bewteen two people with unattractive character flaws or to keep digging for more. I kept waiting for the embraceable moment to hit me in the theater but in the end I just felt like I was chasing Where's Fluffy around New York with these characters and ended up walking away empty handed and wanting more.
I loved it. It didn't make me laugh out loud all that much, but I really liked the characters, actors, setting, writing, and structure. I was kinda worried it'd feel too much like Juno, but it really didn't. And another thing I'd like to point out: Entertainment Weekly noted how great it is to have a teen movie with Jewish and Asian characters and have it be an everyday thing, and to have gay characters who arn't assigned to the sidekick role. Anyway, leaves you feeling really warm and fuzzy and wanting to go to New York. : )
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Michael Cera is a superb up and coming actor and Kat Dennings is similar in that aspect. The soundtrack was very well done, and had many funny moments.
