Although this isn't an absolutely excellent movie, I still had to stay up to the early hours of the morning to wtach all of it because I just had to know what happens in the end. This film has a great cocept. A man with a little daughter is randomly picked up by mysterious people who tell him to murder the governor of California or they will kill his daughter. That must be one of the worst situations to ever be in. Johnny Depp plays the said manwho is forced against his will to do this murderous deed. For once, he looks normal and plays a straight character. This is one of his more less intresting roles, but he does enough to make you feel sympathy for him and really get how tense he must be feeling. Christopher Walken plays the man who has forced Depp to do this. He is really the gem of the cast. He steals the show as the sneaky villian, you get the feeling he would shoot a little girls head off without a second thought, he creates a genuine villian. As he film patters along, for once actually keeping with real time for the most part, things start to fall abit. The beginning works because there is really only a few characters involved, Depp, Walken, the daughter, villians assistant and the govenor. BUt as the film goes along, the plot thickens and more characters are thrown into the mix, a conspiracy develops, more people are revealed to be bad guys and a couple of good guys pop up. It worked better focususing on Depp and Walken. Yes, the extra characters do make the plot move on more, but I think they should have written it just focusing on the two leads. As it reaches its climax, things seem to get really rushed. alot of things seem to happen all at once. With the ending it just seems to stop. It needs more backing to have more of a rounded off ending, it doesn't work if you have all this action and then just seems to suddenly end. This sin't the sort of film that called for it. Really see this film for a straight performance from Depp and a great show stealling performance from Walken. A strong start, ok middle, shakey ending.
It was really good. I was introuged through the whole movie. Guessing and thinking on how it would end. I wasnt even close x) But Johnny di an amazing performance as always...never really thought of him in this kind of role though. and of course christopher walken was awesome as that creepy guy x)
A suspense thriller I loved on my first viewing due to a tense plot and no idea what the outcome could be, which has become evermore tedious which each repeat viewing.
Mild-mannered Mr Watson has ninety minutes to kill the governor, or his little girl will be murdered, and everyone he turns to for help is in on it. A shame there is nothing else to the film.
Nick Of Time comes across more like a television episode than a motion picture, full of amateurish tilty cameras and endlessly repetitive scenes to stress the predicament Mr Watson is in, but that just make it hard to watch. The lack of character development and the fact that some scenes do not include Mr Watson make what John Badham is going for in his direction a mystery.
Christopher Walken as Mr Smith, the hit man forcing Mr Watson into this situation, is more irritating than scary, as he constantly pops up and checks his watch, as if he is waiting for Mr Watson to finish in a shopping queue rather than commit murder.
The climax is a disappointment, as the whole film balances on our desire to know how Mr Watson will get out of this situation, only to find at the climax he still has no idea.
Enjoyable suspenseful thriller if there's nothing better on, but not of good enough quality, and not one for repeat viewings.
I would say the best word to describe this movie is CREEPY!! I was seriously CREEPED out when I was watching this, but to me, this was VERY good!! I was at the edge of my seat shouting DON'T DO IT!! and NOOOOO!!! during about half the movie! The ending was VERY suprising!! Also, Johnny's character was VERY suprising. He was so normal, that it's scary!!
This really was not one of the best Depp films I've seen. Probably his worst, though it wasn't bad. I just thought it was really slow and kind of boring. It was basically plain. I love seeing Johnny in more risk taking roles that people maybe won't appreciate or understand. This was just such a tipical plain hollywood film.
Johnny Depp stars in a painfully unoriginal real-time thriller, that 24 makes look like absolute garbage. Ultimately this movie is yet more evidence that Depp is no good as an 'every-day guy', and that Christopher Walken is the best 'bad-guy' actor alive. The first half of the movie is quite tedious as it basically consists of Depp trying time and time again to tell someone what's going on, and Walken telling him off for it. Fortunately it picks up later on. I'd say definitely worth watching but it's really nothing special and you're far better off with Bauer...
The only Johnny Depp movie that, in my opinion, didn't need him to be what it is. The "real time" aspect is exciting - it's a good story, and cast evenly well. But it's not one of Depp's "special" roles. There are others who could have been just as effective.
not one of his best it falls a bit but this felt like he was out of his comfort zone in a mainstream average joe role which he is just not at home with. Amazing though he is.
Not one of Johnny's best, but still an exciting thriller that should keep you entertained. Christopher Walken again fantastic as 'the bad guy', but without Johnny I wouldn't have seen it in the first place. I wouldn't really expect something like this though.
I hadn't really heard of this before, so I can say that it should have deserved more credit. A must see for any Johnny Depp fan.

wow really suspenseful, it was an awesome movie with a lot of guns for johnny depp (not including once upon a time in mexico) but i think he was born to play a man with a weapon (jack sparrow being proof) you should watch this, it had me on my toes the whole time. great character for Christopher Walken, it suits him so well. i am so glad i saw this movie, it showed us what someone would do for a loved one, a beautiful ending i'd say
Mediocre attempt of Hitchcockian assassination plot. the few interesting paranoid spans are soon forgotten. A hackneyed thriller that crumbles minute by minute.
intenseeeee! there's too much bad language in here, but it was definitely a good movie. johnny depp has yet again played an amazing role...and the girl who plays his daughter is adorable!
Gene Watson (Johnny Depp) is a public accountant who arrives in Los Angeles with his 6-year-old daughter Lynn. Approached by a pair of 'cops', they proceed to kidnap Lynn and confront Gene with a simple choice - kill California governor Eleanor Grant within 90 minutes or Lynn will die. Watson is given everything needed to get close to her while Smith (Christopher Walken) follows Watson in order to prevent him from alerting the authorities but he soon finds out that those two aren't the only ones involved in the assassination attempt and find some to only to trust but to help him get out of this seemingly impossible situation. I enjoyed this thriller and I'm not a huge Depp fan, only other film I own/like of his is Sleepy Hollow but this was a nice change of pace.
