a nice companion piece in the Romero cannon of zombie films 6-18-08 Rewatched over the net outage. The question I have to keep asking myself is would I be so biased to liking this if it weren't Savini's feature directing debut. And I've concluded this - if it weren't Savini's, I'd want to know whose it was because it's a damn good movie especially compared to what it has to live up to. I love the character/plot modifications. This movie allows you to more openly and loudly hate Cooper, and also to examine Ben as a full character, faults and all, and not just "the hero of the day". This Barbara is way more interesting than a shell shocked one , and the end of this movie stands on par with the end of its original (though they are complimentary of each other - boosting both endings to better dramatic heights than if there were just one ending).
It gets that extra half star (beyond the four) just because it kicks ass enough to have, for me, near infinite replay value.
Pretty decent remake with a few shake ups by Tom Savini. This is the movie that caused a rift between Romero and Savini because NTLD90 was an unauthorized remake and Romero got nothing for it. Still a good zombie flick, close to the original and cool to see The Candyman Tony Todd in a major role. I like that Barbara is updated not to be a helpless female. Check it out to compare to the original.
I can say that this is the only Romero remake that is worth watching. Tom Savini mixed it up a bit but follows pretty close to the original. Patricia Tallman is a knock-out. Be sure to check her out in Knightriders as well. She is also the witch in Army of Darkness. I still have a copy of this movie in the wrapper. I wouldn't rate this top 10 or anything, but it's a great movie.
This is the movie that turned Patricia Tallman into a minor sex symbol for me. I loved her progressive transformation into a kind of female Rambo. Moreover, I think Savini did great as a director. I like his style much more than the hectic, nightmarish camerawork of the original. The bickering inside the house did get a little tedious though.
Once again we have another classic that gets a colorized version of crap splattered all over it. Why? Because ppl don't like black and white because they have the attention span of gnats and think it is boring. The only reason I have this is because I have OCD and collect zombie films. OTherwise I wouldn't have even bothered picking it up in the first place. The same goes for most of the horror films I own. If you can't watch black and white or read subtitles, I suggest you really get over it, because you're missing out on the best films ever made. I give it one star because it tried...Tried to be a zombie film, but at the same time. FAIL.
The remake has more girl-power and survivors, but the character interactions are very similar to the original. The gore stands out more in color, but at least the zombies aren't running at them.
A really good remake and it follows the original movie almost shot for shot. This is a creepy one and the kind of horror flick that has gone the way of the dodo as the torture porn has taken over the industry.
Awful 80's remake of Night of the Living Dead that really didn't need to be made. I really have to defend the original's child-like, confused and hopeless Barbara character. There are lots of people like that and just because they're frustrating doesn't mean they shouldn't be in a movie. I think it makes the movie more interesting to have a wide variety of different characters.
A remake done with an actual sense of time and place. Gorier than the original (Tom Savini is in charge here, so...) but also with some nice twists here and there. Tony Todd is seriously a very underrated actor.
remake of 1968 that george a.romero's night of the living dead the original of 1968. tom savini(his work in make-up in every horror movie but sometime he actor too)is director of the remake that his director debut.
different version in remake and the version in the original.
so watch it '68 original night of the living dead(george a.romero director debut)but some of the same version and some of different.
This was the 1990 remake of the seminal romero movie of the same name. directed by zombie effects guru tom savini, it is a faithful adaptation to the origional with updated gore effects that are not for the squeamish. this may vbe one of the only cases where the remake not only holds a candle to its predecessor, but quite possibly may blow it away.
Although slightly different plotwise from the original, it more than makes up for that difference in image and sound quality, as well as continuity. However, it is only an adaptation of a legitimate masterpiece. The advances are to be expected though, considering the funding available for this version.
Well this flim is not as good as the original Night of the Living Dead, but it is directed by Tom Savini who I think does a wonderful job, it also stars everyone's favorite villian Candyman's Tony Todd
I found it absolutely amazing. I think ive not seen such a great movie, bear in mind i dont normally even like zombie movies, but i loved the way they (in the movie) are cut off in that cabin. Absolutely amazing. I cant help but pass this. WATCH IT, FOLKS.
A very worthy update of a classic film. Possibly the best remake of the Dead films, right up there with Dawn ('04). Very claustrophobic atmosphere and intense. Make up effects are top notch, Savini is doing them what more could you ask for.
also good remake of movie from '68 but ain't scary as first one, dunno why proly cause u know what will happned, and it's colored zobies look diferent in colors he hee but all in all it's also very good zombie movie
