Nights in Rodanthe

Diane Lane, Richard Gere, James Franco, Scott Glenn, Christopher Meloni

Adrienne Willis (Diane Lane), a woman with her life in chaos, retreats to the tiny coastal town of Rodanthe, in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, to tend to a friend’s inn for the weekend. Here she h...( read more  read more... )opes to find the tranquility she so desperately needs to rethink the conflicts surrounding her—a wayward husband who has asked to come home, and a teenaged daughter who resents her every decision. Almost as soon as Adrienne gets to Rodanthe, a major storm is forecast and Dr. Paul Flanner (Richard Gere) arrives. The only guest at the inn, Flanner is not on a weekend escape but rather is there to face his own crisis of conscience. Now, with the storm closing in, the two turn to each other for comfort and, in one magical weekend, set in motion a life-changing romance that will resonate throughout the rest of their lives.

It reminded me of a Canadian B movie, but with an A list cast - including Richard Gere and Diane Lane. Sure It's a nice love story - complete with the baggage of past family and each other's shortcomings. In the end, I found it kind of mushy. I've seen a couple of comparisons ...( read more)to The Notebook, but it is half the movie the Notebook is.

Sad, sensual, sensational and well-acted. Diane Lane and Richard Gere give life to this powerful story of love, letting-go and forgiveness. The hurricane sequence is skillfully done. I liked the coastal scenery. The only thing: too many cans of good food were trashed.

Bad movie. Definitely. I have no idea why Hollywood takes stories and turns then into the sappiest, most ridiculous love tragedies. Too much of this, too much of that, let's throw 20 minutes of crying at the end and you have your movie. Maybe not a happy ending, but come on, ther...( read more)e's 194 movies just like this next to it at the video store. As much as I would love liking this movie, being the romantic fool I am, I'm just tired. Plus Richard Gere and Diane Lane just don't do the trick for me. Next one, please!

What is it about a Nicholas Sparks book, turned movie that makes you use up a whole box of Kleenex?
The love story of Nights In Rodanthe is a beautiful one. A story of finding love, and through that, finding yourself again. It tells us not to be afraid of love and that you can f...( read more)ind love again, even if you think it's too late, or you've had your heart broken.
I love Diane Lane. I think she is a wonderful actress, and very easy to identify with in the roles she plays. She is also very beautiful and seems to be aging gracefully.
I am not a huge fan of Richard Gere. He is not horrible, but there is just something about him in this, that rubs me the wrong way. This movie would have probably gotten higher marks with me, had it had someone else playing Dr. Flanner. I also wish we would have gotten to see more of James Franco on the screen. I really like him as an actor.
All in all I would have to say that I liked Nights In Rodanthe. Definitely a tear jerking chick flick. But when it comes to Nicholas Sparks books on the big screen, I will always prefer Allie and Noah.

Trying to juggle the demands of her kids and her husband's attempts at reconciliation after an affair, Adrienne (Diane Lane) takes off to the North Carolina coastal town of Rodanthe to play manager for the week at her friend's bed and breakfast beachfront establishment. The only ...( read more)guest during a stormy weekend is Paul (Richard Gere), a troubled doctor looking to sort out his life in the town, attempting to work up the courage to eventually confront his estranged son (James Franco) in South America. Drawn together through conversation, Adrienne and Paul open up their hearts to each other, leading to an attraction consummated during the fury of a hurricane, followed by promises of commitment that will test this newfound love to the fullest. The chemistry between Gere and Lane is phenomenal. Exquisitely photographed, the picturesque setting of Rodanthe is a character in its own right and none more so than the beautiful clapboard and blue shutter old inn by the sea, where rumor has it in the form of an old pirate legend, wild horses every so often can be seen running free on the sandy beach.

"I love your father because he is the father to my children but there is a different kind of love one that gives you courage to be better then you are and that makes you think ANYTHING is possible. I want you to hold out for it."
