I've seen horror movies without this much bloodshed! This movie is basically about a serial killer and it's very graphic. Way too much killing for my liking!
Pretty damn well put together movie. Loved the scene composition and the script was vintage Coen Bros. I still like There Will Be Blood a little more, but I can see how this film won the Oscars it did.
Good film making, but it left me cold. The end just seems to peter out. Maybe it was supposed to seem ironic or realistic. I wasn't expecting an action-hero ending, but I thought it should have some sort of climax. It even lacked the sense of fate that the old film noir's had. I know people love this film, but I wonder how much of it is because the unconventional ending seems "arty".
Most certainly one of the best tragic-hero westerns I have ever seen. It has it all. Suspense, action, pensivity, not to mention some of the nicest landscape shot I've seen in a while. That's right, the Coen bros. did it again.
Definitely not your tyical movie. I loved Javier Bardem's character, he was super creepy and seemingly imvinicible. The ending was abrupt, but since it was adapted from a book I can understand why. Lots of killing, which isn't my thing, but it was still interesting.
After the recent Intolerable Cruelty of The Ladykillers (See what I did there people... as they both kinda sucked) its great to see the Coen brothers bounce back... and boy do they bounce back! This movie was pure intensity.... Javier Bardem STOLE EVERY SCENE HE WAS IN! A story that keeps building until the finish. There was just no way I could take my eyes off Bardem's character. And it has to be said that Brolin did extremely well to act opposite such a legendary performance. The direction was superb. The cinematography outstanding. The acting was flawless. The story was compelling. I could easily say that just about everything in this movie felt right... up until the end. The way the movie has been mapped out, for me, didn't concentrate enough on the Jones' character and then to finally resolve the story in a way that remains true to the book, made the film loose its momentum. And after the chase the movie did have nowhere else to go except back into character depth. Simply worth watching for the perfect Cat & Mouse chemistry between Bardem and Brolin! Direction that stays with you. Highly Recommended
?You don?t have to do this,? repeated words in this lingering film, which really does not feel like a typical Coen Brothers film to me. Fargo, had its quirky character and its grotesque moments, but this film is all about a subdued natured intermixed with quick action. For what I expected, I got some of it, but also a bit more of a subdued air and timing than I expected. It would do things in spurts, action at the beginning then a lull and more thunder. It worked great for keeping one on edge, which Brolin did, excellently in the lead role lying awake thinking too hard. Jones too was good in a strong supporting role as a close to retirement sheriff who is on the outside shaking his head at the carnage and mayhem unleashed by the simple finding and taking of a satchel full of money.
The real gem and glue of the film though is Javier Bardem?s menacing character who has his own brand of justice, which is extremely harsh and well insane. Even the one who claims to know him cannot even begin to stop or even slow him down. Bardem whom I have not had the pleasure of seeing in anything before is gold and like no other before looks to have the supporting actor award locked up in this performance. His presence is felt, even when he does not show up. That is something I have not seen in film well since probably The Third Man and Orson Welles? character Harry Lime.
I cannot really describe the film that well so I will suffice to say that is best modern western tale I have seen since The Three Burials of Melquiades, which also happened to have Tommy Lee Jones and was directed by him to boot. Another thing I noted was the lack of strong score. The filmmakers just seemed to let the sounds of the creaking boots and the desert landscape speak for the film. It felt natural and a bit menacing.
By far one of the greatest movies I have seen. This movie has everything i love in movies; gore and not alot of talking. With acting as good as this, you arent going to make a better movie than this. The performances of Jones, Bardem, and Brolin are upgradeable. A movie you don't want to miss. I suggest going out and renting this movie right now.
It's vastly gripping, powerful and electrifying all the way through. An intense, engaging and breathtaking movie. A brilliant and heart-pounding thriller. It's a fierce, flawless, memerising, original, terifying and outstanding crime-thriller of the best kind. Definately the best film made by the Cohen Brothers. They take their game to a whole new level. Captivating, riveting and freightning. A masterpiece. One of the great crime classics of the twenty first century. Smartly written and superbly shot. Utterly exciting and exhilerating. An extroadinary all-star cast. Javier Bardem gives a fearless, complex and explosive performance. Tommy Lee Jones is excellent. Woody Harrelson is brilliant. Josh Brolin is teriffic. An intelligent and edge of your seat spellbinder. It explodes with intelligent action, compelling characters and great atmosphere. This film is unforgettable, astonishing and superb. An absolutely perfect film no questions asked. An instant classic. Has all barrels blazing and keeps your adreniline high and your pulse-racing and never stops even till the very end.
I've seen this film at least 4 times, and I love it! An instant classic! Perfectly directed, written and filmed, with great cinematography and edited to perfection. The performances are beyond great, specially Tommy Lee Jones and Javier Bardem, who makes one of the creepiest characters in years. He keeps so calmed and serious that even gives you the chills, being such a wall where you can't see what's going on through his mind is disturbing, and the way he kills merciless makes him a great character (along with his hairstyle...) I think I finally got the message of the film: the world isn't the same as it was years before, violence isn't the same and problems aren't the same. And the old men (for example, the police Ed Tom Bell) can understand it better because he has lived the change. The Coen brothers practically invented a genre, kind of a Neo-Western, in which the bad guy pursuits the good guy, moved by greed and insanity. A Masterpiece!
Golden Apples: 1) Best movie of the year 2) Best supporting actor 3) Best writing achievement 4) Best character - Anton Chigurh 5) Best casting achievement
desrevedly won many oscars, this is not to everyones taste but if you have your symbolic thinking cap on and enjoy dark humour in your cat and mouse adventures this will not dissapoint. a superb film.
this movie is the proof that a suspenseful thriller can be made without investing millions upon millions of dollars to accomplish. all it takes is genius writing and genius acting. the acting by tommy lee jones, brolin, and especially javier bardem steal the show to make it one of the best of the decade. this movie will stuck in everyone's mind for the ending. the bizarre yet outstanding and astonishing ending will make people think about it to fit the pieces of the puzzle
reminds me part of a music 'porque é mais forte quem sabe mentir?' (why is stronger who can lie?)... this movie shows a tuff reality.... in a weird way, somehow it's really precise.
I'm happy to report that the Coen Brothers, after many years of threatening, have at last produced a movie of real perfection. Brilliant story, great ending (yep it is you know) and magnificent set-pieces of gut-churning tension and visceral impact, NCFOM is an instant classic. And Bardem enters the pantheon of great screen baddies and gives a performance that redefines the idea of 'evil' in cinema which will be marvelled at for years to come.
Over rated in imho. So many people agree eith it being so good. I don't really see anything special about it. I liked some of it but nothing to rave about. I know all bout the critcial acclaim it received but in my eyes it's just an ok movie. Definetly not the best movie by the Coen Bros.
One of the best movies I will probably ever see in my lifetime. Tommy Lee Jones should have been nominated for an Oscar, nearly everyone who was in the movie should have been as well. Bardem played a great role which will not leave me for years to come.
good movie the story line was great. the ending really sucked, they left couple of things opened, i guess thats our job to know what happened, thats where the drector leaves open ending like that for us to decide. still it wasa good movie, a lot of killing. i jus love how he opened the door wit air compressor. that was great.
WELL ITS A GOOD PLOT,CAST,AND SHOOT SELECTIONS. THE MOVIE IS FULL OF SUSPENSE AND DRAMA ALONG WITH YOUR TANK OF AIR STRAPED TO YOUR BACK. I PERSONALY DID NOT LIKE THE END BUT FOR THOSE THAT HAVE NOT YET SEEN THE MOVIE. GO WATCH IT THEN RESPONED TO ME AND TELL ME WHAT U THINK OF IT. ( JUST ABOUT THE ENDING) GOOD MOVIE I GIVE IT A 9/10
At first I didn't pay no mind to this, since Tommy Lee Jones has been a in cpl corney movies as of late, but I was throughly impressed with this one. Although Javier Bardem was a huge focus, his character was insane!
This movie will simply surprise you from the get go and I watched w/ all my attention.
Some have claimed this was Hollywood artsy-fartsy but the intention I had was watching Sugar, the mexicans, and Llewlyn try to wax each other off, then eventually Sugar and Tom meet up.
