well, I love single-scene movies. a trench, two enemies and one man lying on a mine. this is the whole story. it means a lot, of course. a country which we saw before on life is a miracle, underground and etc. but no one could ever show the country this simple and yet astonishing. guys killing guys, UN doing nothing but standing by and press looking for more stories with their dramatic talking. I loved the movie. you hear the sound track only two times, the beginning and the end, and that's enough to remember it for weeks after the movie.

I don't know why, but the plot development, sarcastic dialogues and the sad ending remind me of Dog Day Afternoon! It reveals the cruelty of war like other war movies do, but the sarcasm criticizes the imcompetence of international intervention as well.

Enemy soldiers trapped together in the trenches, one stuck on top of a mine that will blow them all to hell if he moves. If that isn't reason enough to give this movie a near-perfect rating, the anti-United Nations sentiments should be.

This is a great film & fully deserving of it's best foreign language film. No Man's Land never tries to follow the well-worn path of other films involving enemies both stuck in the same dangerous situation. The two main combatants never become friends during their ordeal (as shown at the end of the film & little trust exist between the two (they are both only interested in their own interests, not the other). Infact the most clear thinking & compassionate of the three soldiers caught in the trench is the one who can't get up because he is lying on a mine that could kill them all.

Its about vanity and frailty of life and conflict, i guess. How frustrating the result is,regardless of UN's involvement, Its theatrical promotion was soooo off of what it is. Quite memorable.

Fantastic! Two men from opposing sides are stranded in the middle of the enemy lines. With no other choice, they must learn to live with each other, which is of course very hard since their respective sides have been in conflict so long. This movie is a great insight into the human character and deep set societal hatred against opposing people, who each blame the other for their problems.

I wish I could watch every movie ever made but I sadly don't have the time. I'm not interested in this movie because I don't think I'll like it or don't know enough about it to think I might like it. I may still end up seeing it some day though.

with wonderful acting, superb direction and (thank god) an original war story this is a welcome change of paise.
Unlike most war films, where theres a lot blood and a lot guns and no real reason to watch exept for the imagery and on occasion the acting, this film gives you a human drama...And yes I know most war films these days have human drama but not pulled of in the way this one does.

A very dark comedy really, though it has strong drama elements. However you slice it this film is full of great performances and has some strong messages

The best movie I've ever seen about the absurdities of war. The story of everyday men finding themselves caught up in a war against their former countrymen is cleverly illustrated as Bosnian reservists get caught between the lines in No Man's Land. A series of tragically comic scenes between the likeable characters ensues as the UN inevitably fails to intervene.

Interesting idea, mediocre realization, but hardly the best Academy award foreign movie of the year.

This film is about a Serb and a Bosian solider both caught togetehr between battlelines and how the UN tries to get to both of them. It has a heartbreaking ending.

An ironic and tension filled war drama set during the Bosnian-Serb conflict...it's surprisingly humorous and excels at expressing the absurdities of war as well the media coverage that often surrounds it.

Phenomenal film with a perfect balance between the absurdity of war, its dire nature, and the humanity of the players. Quite unique in the war movie genre.

this was not the war-action film I was expecting, but it was still very much enjoyable. I especially liked how the focus tended to remain on the negative qualities of each side (Bosnia, Serbia, the UN, and the media), but you still saw traces of goodness in just about everybody. a great expose of the Bosnian conflict and a dramatic, drly humourous film to keep everyone interested.

while there are some nice quirks and humane touches to be had, there?s really nothing special about this borderline satire?nice social commentary though

As I've never seen a war movie before about the present day conflict between Bosnia and Serbia, I didn't really know what to expect, but after reading so many good reviews about it, it did seem pretty interesting at first. The story is mainly based around two soldiers (one from each side of the fence) who are forced into a situation where they get a rare opportunity to converse face to face and vent their strong contempt before each other, at times reaching a level of acceptance, but ultimately, like the war, unable to let go of the deeply-rooted hate. This comes to lead to a quite depressive ending, which was the very opposite of what I had hoped for.

Despite being very slow-paced, I liked the way the story focused more on the interaction between its characters, rather than to just throw in a lot of action and explosions for the sake of entertainment (although it could have used some more to have kept things going). It is a sad fact though that the movie didn't really provide much hope or inspiration, apart from one or two moments where the two main characters come close to bonding with each other as human beings.

As I don't follow the news, I don't know exactly how this war looks like today, but one can only hope that the people and governments of these two opposing countries will come to realise how pointless it to waste so much energy, blood and human lives when it costs so much less to take measurements towards peace.

In summary: Has some good moments and is interesting in parts, but due to the sucky and lackluster ending (which made the rest of the movie feel almost entirely pointless) I wouldn't recommend anyone to see it, unless you happen to be very familiar with this war or have personal experience from it. But for me, who has no emotional attachment whatsoever, it ended up being quite boring. It doesn't help either that most of the plot takes place in and around a single trench. All in all a real disappointment :(

never has a movie seemed more relevant. a very funny, whip-smart send-up of the absurdity of war, especially in the age of the 24-hour news cycle.

Does not have massive battles or amazing war special effects. Although there are some cool scene set-ups to keep things interesting, the movie is driven by creative and at times amusing dialogue. It was fantastic until the very end, which was illogical and stupid. I won't elaborate further for spoiler reasons.

Two enemies who are about to become friends are trapped between a war between the newsmakers and the peacekeepers.
