Critic Reviews

  • Cath Clarke, Time Out

Portman can look smug in light-touch comedy, but her chemistry with Kutcher is believable (though to be fair, Kutcher is the golden retriever of male leads: blandly irresistable).

  • Peter Rainer, Christian Science Monitor

At least Portman is playing someone who is recognizably human, unlike her dancer in Black Swan.

  • Ben Sachs, Chicago Reader

The charismatic leads keep this watchable, but it's a waste of their talents.

  • David Edelstein, New York Magazine

No Strings Attached is so palpably calculated that you know if the camera had pulled back a foot from the bed in which Portman and Kutcher were pretending to have sex, you'd have seen their agents standing by beaming: proud parents, proud pimps.

  • Richard Roeper, Richard Roeper.com

One of the better romantic comedies in the last couple of years.

A cute different take on the romantic comedy. Portman and Kutcher actually have a very good chemistry in the movie and the supporting cast is actually quite good. Despite going in with limited expectations this was a very enjoyable movie.

Predictable, unoriginal, and cliched. This movie is the perfect storm for a bad Rom-Com. It has a couple cheap laughs (one or two) and is cheesier than a bowl of Kraft. It's just another forgettable romantic-comedy.

I chose to watch this movie only because Friends with Benefits was not on Netflix, and this was the closest thing I could find. I began watching this movie, expecting for it to be a stupid, shallow chick flick. That's pretty much exactly what it was. This movie lacked any… More

It's pleasant, but certainly not a memorable nor even particularly original film. Very cut and paste, fabricated Hollywood fare.
