Adam Ant, Anna Maria Monticelli, Frank Doubleday

Pierce Brosnan, bloody and beaten and hysterically screaming in French, whispers a word, Innuat, into the ear of emergency-room physician Lesley-Anne Down and promptly dies. John McTiernan (...( read more  read more... )Die Hard) knows how to kick off a movie, and his directorial debut, Nomads, shows a real flair for visual tension and eerie imagery. For reasons never explained, Down relives the final days of anthropologist Brosnan in mind-jolting flashes of memories that send her stumbling across L.A. and into the path of a demonic gang of black-leather punks (led by cult singer Adam Ant). McTiernan's ambition overreaches his abilities--the muddled story depends on smart people doing dumb things, and the hints of personalities merging in Down's tormented psyche remain frustratingly unexplored--but his sense of mood and mystery created solely out of suggestion is unerring. There's a fascinating movie lost in the confusion of this unsettling supernatural thriller. --Sean Axmaker

Great movie! This is definitely one of my all time favorites in the supernatural suspense collection. Pierce Brosnan truly shines in this, and the story plot is highly intriguing. Brosnan is a French cultural anthropologist who is studying the various patterns of nomadic people i...( read more)n the world. In the completion of his studies and move to California, he discovers and develops a current interest in a group of outsiders in L.A. He sees resemblance of nomadic traits in the lifestyle patterns of this wily group. The closest connection that he compares it to within his studies is that of the Inuit people. His interest begins to take toll as he is welcomed by the group. As he tries to quietly walk away, it brings further tension from the group and this final realization brings his death. In the last moment of dying, it is a connection with an E.R. nurse that allows us to see the remaining days of what happened to him in memories, nightmares, and haunting thoughts. This movie reflects much of Native American aspects in connection with life, death, and the soul and spirit of a human body. Love this movie. It's quite interesting to see Adam Ant in this movie, especially as the leader of the group of outsiders. Lesley-Anne Down is absolutely fantastic in this movie. Definitely worth seeing!

Suspense and horror movies from the late 70s and early 80s really suffer from their sense of fashion and pop music score, don?t they. This movie was one that my older sisters got when I was a little one and I didn?t make it through it. Now, I had seen worse horror movies before t...( read more)his age ? I had to sit through The Shining when I was in Kindergarten, though at least I was at home so the sound wasn?t overwhelming. But this one, I guess, was just too psychological for me to get.

So I watched it again recently to expose my wife to a young Brosnan, though a bearded one which isn?t her taste. And although this movie is creepy and has a good story, it is a slave to the time, which makes it suffer. The effects of this dilute it too much. But a nice story to get through.

One of the first movies I saw with Pierce in. Adam Ant is in it too. This movie is messed up! It was freaky and kept you wondering what the heck is going on throughout. An old classic.

Loved the storyline, a modern day haunting and a descent from one world into the nether regions of another. I'd change a few things if I were writing/directing it, but it's worth watching, twice even.
