What a year at John Hughes High! The Wasp football team goes all the way -- into the cellar, that is, when quarterback Jake Wyler makes an errant pass and Reggie Ray racks up his umpteenth concussion....( read more  read more... ) Things perk up at a dazzling year-end prom when conjoined twins Kara and Sally Fratelli are crowned prom queens. Other highlights from this year include a nasty toilet explosion that drops in the middle of Mr. Keller's English class, Jake fails to seduce Janey with a human whipped cream sundae and Janey is apprehended by police after Jake's moving serenade of Aerosmith's "Janey's Got a Gun". Many new faces deck the halls this year, including Sadie, a 90 year-old undercover reporter and foreign exchange student Areola, who becomes the object of lust for all American nerds. Malik continues to be the "token black guy," Catherine is still in love with her brother, Bruce still thinks he's Asian, and Ox is still a virgin...

A lewd, crude, rude and a lot of nudity rather funny film. Not heard much about it, so I expected the worse.....but actually found myself laughing an awful lot! It's a great spoof mainly of She's all that, American Pie, Cruel Intentions and Pretty in Pink. Featuring a great came...( read more)o from Molly Ringwald, Lindsay Lohan from Mean girls and even Mr T! Along the way there are scenes aimed at Porky's, Grease, Risky Business, the list is endless. Every type of humour is here and if you know the mentioned films well you could like it. Not a bad DVD with a quiz on teen movies, Music videos, Making of as well. Overall a fun package and even a lot of females on my friend list liked it to my surprise!

My guilty pleasure of the month. I laughed the first time i saw it, and i still do. I always debated about giving this one a thumbs up, but really, why the f$#k not? Especially considering how terrible these spoof movies have become lately.

Lampoons various teen movies, to varying effect.

    pretty funny

Back in 2001, "Scary Movie" was still fresh in our minds and that's why this one looked like an old joke already, and at the same time, as something that unexplicably excelled our expectations. It's hilarious at every single moment, original in its own unoriginality and brings ba...( read more)ck some of the most amazing memories of youth, from "The Breakfast Club" to "American Pie", instead of making gross, stupid, nonsense jokes it reminds us why cliches are always funny. Molly Ringwald's and Melissa Joan Hart's appearances are simply delicious. Besides, seeing so many actors in their first big role is fantastic. Chris Evans, Samm Levine and Jaime Pressly, just to name a few.

Yes, after all, it IS another teen movie... but how great it is!
(By great I mean HILARIOUS and ENTERTAINING, of course it's crap but chill out and enjoy it!)

  • January 8, 2010
This film is funny throughout! So many great films that were spoofed, it's fun to try and guess which ones while watching! The entire cast were hilarious throughout and i first became a fan of Chris Evans after watching this.

The best lines (in no particular order):

Malik: ...( read more)"Sure, why not? I am the token black guy. I'm just supposed to smile and stay out of the conversation and say things like: "Damn," "Shit," and "That is whack."

Priscilla: "You put the "suck" in "liposuction" You put the "ooo" in "jiu-jitsu" You put the "ism" in "This is all just a defense mechanism".

    cheerleader: "You better bring it."
Priscilla: "Oh, it's already been brought-en."

Mr. Briggs: "Hey, uhh... I might be late to pick you guys up."
Janey: "Why, do you have a job interview today, daddy?"
Mr. Briggs: "No honey, I'll probably just be waaaay too drunk."
Janey: "Oh, that's good, we don't want you drinking and driving."
Mr. Briggs: "Oh, I'll be driving. I'll just be too shit-faced to remember to pick you guys up."
    Janey: "Ok, bye, daddy."
    Mr. Briggs: "Bye, Pumpkin."

Priscilla: "This is not a cheer-ocracy, I am the cheer-tator, I will make the cheer-isions around here, and I will deal with the cheer-onsequences."

Teen at prom: "Who would've guessed that everyone in school was a professional dancer?"

Austin: "All I said was: "I'm pretending to whisper a big secret in your ear so that Jake here thinks I'm telling you a secret, which will cause him to break into a hysterical confession where he actually reveals a big secret. Thus confirming everything I just whispered in your ear."

    Jake: "Hey Janey. What's up?"
    Janey: "Excuse me?"
Jake: "So listen, you ever wondered what it'd be like to be the most popular girl in school?"
Janey: "You mean anorexic, superficial, a bitch, a whore who lacks any real long-term goals?"
Jake: "Uhhh ha ha... exactly. So, if you're interested, I thought that maybe we could go out sometime, be seen in public together."
Janey: "You haven't spoken to me in, like, four years Jake."
Jake: "Actually, it's more like six, because the time you're referring to when we were standing in line at that movie theater, I was actually saying "hey" to the person right behind you."

Austin: "Let's make like a tree and... branch!"

The Coach: "Can he still play?"
    Trainer: "He's in a coma!"
    The Coach: "Answer the question!"

Janey: "Jake! How did you get in here? I thought Dad bolted the door."
Jake: "There's a big hole in the side of your house."

Priscilla: "Ok we're down a cheerleader for Friday night's state game against North Compton and that squad always tries to bring it!"
    Ashley: "Bring what Priscilla?"
    Priscilla: "Bring IT "
Ashley: "Right but, what it IT?"
Priscilla: "IT's just what they bring OK?"

In the immortal words of teen movies: It's totally lame. full review

December 14, 2001
Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

The makers of Not Another Teen Movie should be embarrassed that, in parodying She's All That, they copied most of the plot and then made a movie that bogs down in the same places as the original. full review

December 14, 2001
A.O. Scott, The New York Times

Not Another Teen Movie is a happy, nasty and frequently hilarious assault on 20 years' worth of youth pictures. full review

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

It was not good to see yet still more wretched excess in the jokes about characters being sprayed with vast quantities of excrement. full review

The fact that they got Jaime Pressly, Chris Evans, Randy Quaid, and Lacey Chabert shows that they can certainly write good enough material. I didn't go into this expecting much, but it turned out quite funny. The random songs, Austin's continuous name calling, stupid lines and the awkward relationships between the characters - not to mention the slapstick comedy - makes this movie golden. In fact, I liked this movie better than Monty Python's The Life Of Brian and I'm a huge fan of the Monty's. "You're my sister!" "Only by blood!" Golden!

Facts

  • Fun Fact:
Chris Evans (Jake Wyler) sang "Janie's Got a Gun" (by Aerosmith) at the stadium. During "Prom Tonight", the cast actually sings. No additional/backup voices were added.
  • Fun Fact:
The filmmakers couldn't get the rights to use footage from She's All That (1999) so they shot the scene with two different people (on the library set) and made the TV blurry so you couldn't tell.
  • Fun Fact:
In Russia, the film is entitled "Not a Children's Movie".
  • Fun Fact:
A banner in the cafeteria says 'SAVE FERRIS'.
  • Fun Fact:
The Fratelli Siamese twins are named in reference to Mama Fratelli and her sons from The Goonies (1985).
  • Fun Fact:
During the detention scene, a piece of bologna falls off the statue. This is a reference to the piece that Ally Sheedy threw in the movie The Breakfast Club (1985).
