Love watching this, I thought these two actors did a great job with there characters they make you believe they are really father and son and having these problems.
If i were Tom hanks character i would have changed my number. Thank god my parents got divorced when I was 4. It is a very funny movie and touching, but not exactly for my generation.
Kind of a passing of the torch film with the young and up and coming Tom Hanks paired with the legend Jackie Gleason who was in the twilight of his life and career.
My girlfriend found this movie at goodwill. i really liked it. it is significant as the only movie i have seen that has a sympathetic view of advertising executives. jackie gleason will make you want to cry as the aging salesman struggling against the tides modernity and his own failing health. tom hanks plays off of eva marie saint well. definitely a labor of love, this movie. Not great by anyone's standards, but a picture of a shifting paradigm, a moment in american culture of unabashed hopefulness, utter cynicism, and on the surface, anti-septic beauty, lithe corporate vampiresses and gleaming high rise facades. rare to see the pathos of the elderly on film.
