Very enjoyable, as a lawrence fan i missed this one but a friend asked me to rent it for them, after watching it myself im very glad i did, comical through out, easy to follow, light hearted that both sexes will enjoy!
i love this movie SO much! I can watch this over and over again! It's just a great story and even though the idea has been worked out before, it hasn't been done as well as this movie, it's really good! Worth watching, no doubt
A simple comedy with some funny moments, nothing spectacular though. Martin Lawrence is terrific as Terrance, Tim Robbins as usual overacts on his role as...Tim Robbins.
T. Paul: There's a spider on your head. Nick Beam: What? T. Paul: There's a spider on yo head. Nick Beam: Look, I'm sorry, I'm not up on all this jive talkin', home boy lingo, what's that supposed to mean? "There's a spider on your head"? T. Paul: It means there's a spider on your motherfuckin' head, man! Nick Beam: Well get it off! GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF! T. Paul: I ain't touchin' that shit!
As I write this review, I am watching this movie on television and enjoying it. I have seen it a number of times and find it entertaining enough. It's nothing special, but it has its moments and is perfect for a late night viewing when you've got...nothing...to...lose...
Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence make the ridiculous team in this familiar buddy movie about an odd pairing forming between to people to hopefully get what they want.
In this case, Robbins' character happens to have witnessed a terrible sight, loses it, and drives off. Lawrence attempts to carjack him, but does not succeed. This results in a strange road trip, where the two eventually bond, and decide to do what they believe is right together; rob Robbins' boss.
Of course this movie is mainly about the chemistry between Lawrence and Robbins and for the most part it works, mainly out of the whole opposites attracting aspect.
John C. McGinley, among others also shows up in a supporting role, showing once again how great of a character actor he is in any part.
It's an entertaining movie for the most part and as I said, very good if you just happen to catch it on TV and decide to stick around.
Nick Beam: Now honestly, which one of us was scarier? Henry: [Looking at T] He was scarier. T. Paul: Hah! Nick Beam: Really? You didn't find what he did as contrived? Henry: No it was scary. Nick Beam: What part? Henry: The 'freeze motherfucker' part was scary and he lead me to believe that if I moved my ass, it might be blown off.
Steve Oedekerk directing Tim Robbins and John C. McGinley?! WTF?! I have to see this!! Too bad it has Martin Lawrence in it... it sounded so perfect...
A cliched plot but much better than most of it's kind. Really entertaining and I like the partnership of Tim Robbins and Martin Lawrence. This is perhaps Martin Larwrence's funniest. Had a good laugh and enjoyed watching this.
Let me explain something to you Nick, if you aint got digital, you aint got shit. I don't understand why people rate this so low. This is why you can't trust critics. This is a classic. See it. I've personally seen it over 10 times, and enjoyed every single viewing.
I'd never heard of this movie before, and it looked like a pretty typical "unlikely friends"-kind of comedy. The concept reminded me a little of Trading Places, which I also watched recently. I have to say, though, I liked this a lot better. It's very, very funny! What more can I say? Well acted, well written... just plain funny. More laugh-a-minute than Trading Places, bigger laughs, and with none of the gratuitous nudity. The soundtrack wasn't really my cup of tea, but it worked fine in the movie.
'Nothing to Lose' is a very enjoyable and hilarious buddy comedy from writer/director Steve Oedekerk, and it is worth seeing. The film is sort of a cross between a comedy and an action movie and, quite surprisingly, the two work well when mixed and the film is an absolute hoot. Nick Beam (Robbins) believes his life could not get any worse when he catches his wife in bed with his boss. On the road he feels pretty depressed, then carjacker Terrance (Lawrence) gets into Nick's car. Nick, because he was in such a bad mood, drives all the way out into the desert with terrified Terrance beside him. The two then realise that they are both in the same boat; they have nothing to lose, and so they become reluctant friends. What follows is a series of robberies in the lead up to the ultimate revenge plot; stealing all the money from Nick's boss. As well as this, another pair of robbers pursues Nick and Terrance for infringing on their territory. After a hilarious first half, I started to lose interest in the second half until the great ending came around. 'Nothing to Lose' is quite a funny and enjoyable flick. Recommended.
Lawrence is one big pain in the ass. Horrible "actor" and exactly the same in every role he ever "played". See one of his movies and you've seen them all.
In an unintentional irony, the title of this movie sums up the reason for watching it. There's nothing you can pick out as being impressive, but the film does vaguely entertain in a knockabout sort of way and is harmless enough. Tim Robbins plays a world-weary schmuck who takes on carjacker Martin Lawrence at his own game, and much wackiness ensues as the pair become mixed up with a couple of shady villains. There are plenty of criticisms to make; the plot only truly engages for the first 10 minutes, the comedy is generally weak and the baddies are awful, but when everything is combined it somehow forms a reasonable palatable whole.
This is one of the few movies that has made me laugh uncontrollably for more than a few seconds at a time. If you haven't seen it, watch it, and you will watch it many more times after, I guarantee.
Was pretty funny. I love Tim Robbins, I'm sure this was a fun film for him to make. The story isn't the most original ever told, but some of the dialogue was laugh-out-loud hysterical... Tim makes insanity look easy ;)
This is a very daft but I thought very funny movie. Not to be taken seriously but good movie viewing if you want to have some good laughs, especially if you've had a bad day or week at work, in this movie its someone else who has the bad luck!
Nick Beam: You don't say "sorry" when you shoot somebody. You can say "sorry" when you step on someone's toe, or accidentally break their glasses, or when you fart while they're eating. YOU DON'T SAY YOU'RE SORRY WHEN YOU SHOOT SOMEONE!
wow what a film. i just saw this for the 1st time nd thought its was ace. this is a good buddy film...i was impressed with the performances throughout the film...i was surprised that dr. cox from scrubs was in this film...this has a good story/plot line in this film.... theres really good chemistry between martin lawrence nd tim robbins throghout this film...the security guard was really funny because that was the writer/director of this film... i really enjoyed this film..
Another Oedekerk masterwork. Say that three times real fast. Another good example of what a fine writer can do when allowed to direct--but here, I think, the money kept him on a fairly short leash. Somebody did, anyway; O works best that way, it seems. The result is a perfect little movie with a tight plot, continuous laughs, and timing that they use to set the clock at the Naval Observatory. Unfortunately the kids can't see it, as it is peppered with obscene language; but even that is done precisely. It's what you would hear from those people in those situations. Not a word is gratuitous. Neither of the stars ever equalled his work in this film, either, I don't think. See this.
Decent actors, mediocre movie. It's a good pick if your movie selection is poor and... you... have... nothing to lose... except for the cost of rental and the 2 hours of life you've wasted watching it. It wasn't too bad though and is good enough to sit down with some peeps who haven't seen it yet and have some popcorn and nachos or something. Its definitly not the most funny or action-packed movie out there tho, don't expect a whole lot from this one. :)
