It was a sad ending for the love story between Marie-Loup and Francois, but the actual ending of the movie was very surprising indeed.

Nouvelle-France, also known as "Battle of the Brave", is a wonderful epic story. "Epic" is definitely right, the movie is too long. The ending was a surprise but a good surprise.

AKA Battle of the Brave, half of this film is a bit too flakey but as the story progress I did enjoy this especially the end and I will say I quite happy to have seen this. It was worth my patience.
