Numb

Matthew Perry, Lynn Collins, Ben Ayres, William B. Davis, Monique Ganderton

Screenwriter Hudson Milbank suffers from acute depersonalization disorder: he is so alienated from his own life that he makes the chronically depressed look perky. Hudson lives alone, watches The Golf...( read more  read more... ) Channel all day, can't hang on to a relationship, shoplifts in order to get his adrenalin up off the floor, fears that thinking about his dad's death will bring it to pass, loathes his mother, and in general, is as nutty as a peanut farm. Obsessed with the underlying sadness that infuses his wretched existence, Hudson is a man in hell, but he thinks that his long catalog of dismally unsatisfying and mutually self-destructive relationships is over when Sarah stumbles into his life. He knows she can save him. She knows he has to save himself. Together they just may save each other.

Weird, but very sweet and funny.

Does depersonalization disorder really exist? Hudson (Matthew Perry) is so depressed that psychoanalysis, drugs or even a girlfriend doesn't help. I have no idea if there is any realism to this disorder, but it is quite original as a movie.

Numb is the story of Hudson Milbank (Matthew Perry). Hudson is a screenwriter that smokes way too much marijuana and wakes up in a permanently numb state. He suffers from depression and a serve depersonalization disorder, where he doesn't seem to care about anything. He becomes a...( read more) kleptomaniac, to get a little bit of excitement out of life.
He spends the movie trying to face his demons and cure his problem. Life, family, fear of death, becoming who he wants to be, and love.
I really enjoyed this film. I thought that Matthew Perry did a very good job in this role. I really enjoyed Lynn Collins as Sara, she is very endearing and cute. Kevin Pollack is always enjoyable, I just wish his role would have been bigger. I think that Mary Steenburgen is a great actress. I thought she was very refreshing in this.
Numb is a very good film that makes us examine what's most important in our lives. I would recommend watching this one.

Gee I'd hate to meet the writer of this autobiographical movie.

This movie feels a little too familiar, so I took it to heart. Matthew Perry is an apocalypse.

    m. perry is the only "friend" who can nearly convince me by his performances... nevertheless the plot deals with a solution for a depression and that was it; sometimes too unordered, sometimes not logical.

Like watching paint dry. Only with knives stabbed into your eyes and chest, and acid poured in the resulting wounds. Slowly. Or like watching a very haggard, chunky, and miserable Matthew Perry sleepwalk through a film and gain large puffy bags under his eyes as the movie goes al...( read more)ong. Bleahhhhh!
