Very strong start followed by a slight decline in quality, but enjoyable and Brazilian, so it couldn't have gone wrong if it tried.
It's a little different to City of God, though it does fall into the same crime category. It is less obviously set in the favelas, instead being more of what I thought of (being English) as like a very poor neighbourhood, but not an artificially created one a la a council estate....( read more)

O que um tiro não fez... esse filme é, sem duvida, um dos mais interessantes que já vi, pela história original, abordagem inusitada e atuações interessantes. Pena ser pouco conhecido e divulgado, mas aqui deixo minha opinião: nota máxima.
Another classic Brazilian film. While it will never match up to City of God's greatness, it is still a brilliant film in its own right. I couldn't believe the stupid woman cooked his pet pig!
