1 of the thousands movies I'd like to see once again; without counting the thousands I want to see for the 1st time; without counting all new each week on theatres. Life's way too short!
Every once in a while, a movie comes along that can actually make me cry. I can count on one hand the number of movies that has been. This is among them. What I love about Gary Sinise's directing here is that he stayed wonderfully close to the source material, creating a movie that pays appropriate homage to the John Steinbeck novel. The acting here is great for such an unknown movie, and it's another reason why I like Gary Sinise. I never knew he directed, but he does a fine job here of both directing and acting. Even though I knew what the outcome of this film would be, I still found myself crying. A really great creation by Sinise, and I recommend it to all members of the human race. Plus, you can see it for free on Flixster. That's what I did.
LOVED THIS STORY WHEN I FIRST READ IT IN HIGH SCHOOL, I SAW THE MOVIE AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THE STORY ALL OVER AGAIN!! IT IS SO SAD EVEN THE STRONG HEARTED WILL CRY.
I had to watch this with my husband, it actually wasn't bad. It had a good story and Malkovich and Sinise played well off each, they were in sync.(not the boys band)
a well done effort here, if only because the producers reached so high in attempting steinbeck's classic consideration of what could be most important after we take care of the basics, like survival...how we care for each other? sinise is better than i first thought he could be, and walston is always a fine addition to any work he is in, but this is malkovich's show as he literally shines as the simple lenny...
If there ever was a tear-jerker this is it. I read the book my freshman year of high school then saw the movie and both times I choked up. I find that older movies (and movies based on novels in general) have so much more substance to them. Both actors played the roles of Lenny and George it was much too believable to not make me love it.
This was good, but not remarkable. The novel already reads like a play and is very complete on its own so I guess it was difficult to add much more to it.
Oh, and surprisingly, for once in my life, I didn't really like the way John Malkovitch played his character. Actually, I simply didn't like the fact that it was him. He was convincing as an autistic man but he's just not Lennie to me.
