An environmental message wrapped up in a typical Seagal movie. Michael Caine is in this, but then again so are half the movies ever made and he still manages to put in a great performance as the heartless and overall asshole Michael Jennings. This has a good cast in it and means ...( read more)well, but that doesn't always equal a great movie.

What left is there to say about Steven Segal's acting talent? Just don't know why a actor of Sir Micheal Caine's talent would agree to this?

To date, Steven Seagal's only film as director... and what a film it is! Don't be mistaken, this is the work of an auteur, as it's a tribute to all of Seagal's obsessions: the environment, Buddhism, his Native American heritage and mysticism, slapping people into contemplation, b...( read more)ad acting... Michael Caine sports a non-existent Texan accent and a nice embalming job, a pre-SCRUBS John McGinley whines, grits his teeth and punches things, and Seagal is, well, uber-Seagal. Ridiculous in the extreme, his novel way to preach the gospel of ecological responsibility is to blow up helicopters in the forest, oil rigs in the ocean (Al Gore, take note!), then have the cheek to deliver a 4 minute speech at the end of the film about our reponsibility to save the environment! All at once, it's the silliest, dumbest and ballsiest ending to an action film you'll ever see. Funnily enough, as bad as this seemed in 1994, the last decade of Direct-To-Video trash Seagal has crapped out actually reflects really well on this. The fight scenes are quite bracing and well executed, there's some nice photography (mostly of animals and snow-capped vistas) and... well, you have to admire him, just a little, for preparing to state so nakedly his heart & beliefs on film... by working it into a clumsy, hackneyed, preachy action film. There's a sort of weird, misguided genius at work here. Awful, yet unmissable.
