Okay, so Kazan was an asshole and I can't give this a full five star rating. But, it's still a great story and Marlon Brando is incredible.

"This ain't your night!! My night" This is my night.. my night for a great movie.. I can't help myself shaking and shivering. What a performance!! Marlon Brando was God on the waterfront.. his character was really deep and classic. I can say i've never seen such a performance li...( read more)ke this in my whole life.. where was i?? where?? why i didn't pick this incredible movie up and washed some so-so trash out of my brain!! I'm the fan of Raging Bull.. and i can see connectin' between Robert De Niro in "Raging Bull" and Terry Mulloy in "On The Waterfront".. The way they acted the way they talk the way even they moved their mouths.. it's creative and epic acting!!

The Story is interestin'!! Moral test.. do the right thing or ignore it.. so up to date content in this material world! i don't care some of the people and critic said that.. On the waterfront was something Elia Kazan created it to be the excuse about political problems in that time.. but i really don't care!! Who care if i don't fuck my wife for years to create such piece of Art!! forget about it.. what i'm trying to say is don't ever connect this movie with some point that doesn't effect art creating!! It's nothing to do with that!!

The Scene in the car between Terry and Charley.. is breathtaking'.. classic dialogue.. super performance.. great score from Bernstein.. i can say this is one of the most powerful scenes and most powerful dialogues in my life.. "You don't understand! I could have had class! I could have been a contender. I could have been somebody..!!" Terry explored his anger and inner need in great way.. the way Marlon Brando talk is outstanding and unique! he acted with his eyes his mouth his voice.. God i love him!! This movie wouldn't be this great without him.. The Most powerful acting ever. and lot of great scenes.. like Father Barry Statement in the front of workers!! The scene Terry carried a gun to Johnny Friendly's Bar!! and the last confrontation at the endin' scene!!

Lord, it's Great to watch it.. superb experience of cinema!! All time favorite ....Salute Marlon Brando & Elia Kazan!!

Father Barry: Isn't it simple as one, two, three? One: The working conditions are bad. Two: They're bad because the mob does the hiring. And three: The only way we can break the mob is to stop letting them get away with murder.

This is a great film. Everything is top notch. The ...( read more)acting, the direction, the screenplay, the characters, the cinematography, the music. All of it works.

Terry: You know this city's full of hawks? That's a fact. They hang around on the top of the big hotels. And they spot a pigeon in the park. Right down on him.

Brando is perfection in this role. He is Terry Malloy, a washed up fighter, who is now an underling for the mob.

The story is extremely simple, so simple that because of all the other things going on in the film, you feel you may have missed something, but you haven't, its just giving you good atmosphere concerning the lives of these characters.

Brando inadverdantly gets a friend of his killed, the sister of this friend wants to find out who's responsible and tries to get Brando to go against the mob, resulting in Brando's brother getting killed by not killing Brando, then Brando fights back. Its simple.

It's not an action movie, but there is some action. It's not a noir, but there are definetely noir elements. It's not a comedy or satire, but it has little moments. Its a drama, but nothing really depressing. Its just a really good movie.

I can't emphasize enough the natural quality that Brando brings to the role, he's just really good.

Terry: Conscience... that stuff can drive you nuts!

Of course On the Waterfront is one of the timeless classics the movie industry has offered to the public but it wouldn't have been the same without the presentation of Terry Malloy, the character played by Marlon Brando which will always be my most beloved character that ever app...( read more)eared on the silver screen. And this character itself would never be the same if it wasn't for Marlon Brando's electrifying performance which is enough to name him the greatest actor that ever lived. As written, Terry Malloy is a young childish rebell who is trying to survive his life, bu Marlon Brando made this superficial character deep with a charming and powerful performance. An Aamzing work on the facial expressions as never seen before. You see sadness and charm both mixed up on his face whi prooves what a true nuance he had. and the final scene where we see him all bloodied up was just a real charmer. It's amazing how he showed his pain yet his strengh, a tear but then a smaile. None other then a pure genius in acting. The movie by itself is wonderful movie watching experience. The story transforms Terry Malloy gently and msartly into a gentlman in love and the way it takes all the twists and turns shows genius, emotions and a heart. And of course Elia Kazan was one of the biggest factors to make this movie what it is with his intelligent look at that time and space to bring out the true horror these people braught to teh simple citisens.

    definitely not over-rated.
