been after this film for a few years finally bought it last week, great action and the comedy bits ain't to bad either.
Fun and silly with cool gun fights. The action works better than the comedy, but Chow Yun Fat is awesome no matter what, even when shooting people from his wheelchair.
What John Woo movie would be complete with breathtaking stunts, action and of course, gunplay. Truly a hundred bullets for every man, as they say. Not to mention the subtle love story planted within. Fans of Chow Yun-Fat will drool over this classic, and Leslie Cheung fans will be overcome with nostalgia. After all, both actors (Cheung, posthumously) are icons in Asian cinema.
If you do remember the remake in 1995 for TV (yes folks, a remake), it's really lame compared to this one. I mean, if you really want to enjoy something good, wouldn't you want to see the original? This rules my Asian action shelf among others, and it will rule yours, too!
When you keep on repeat watching some films, you do not feel bored. This is one of them.
The theme song makes Leslie Cheung an A list star and the song is as classic as the film and he is.
The movie was presented in a very smart way. It was another John Woo's fan favorite and Hong Kong classic movie.
i know it's meant to a light, funnier film from John Woo but this, in my mind, is poor poor poor.
ok... mediocre at best as there will be some people who like this sort of thing.
it feels like it owes a lot to hudson hawk with burglars, double crosses and triple crosses galore but it suffers from trying too hard to be action, comedy, sentimental, romantic and whole lot more and falls down as it all inevitably fails to gel as one film.
the mood and themes changes so frequently that you kinda feel like it's a just a mess of random scenes stitched together and you end up feeling you've just watched something that's not quite finished.
