Man, the people at Flixster are going to hate me some more. I've been cranking out these Eclipse sets before they have a chance to throw them on the website. Sorry, guys. I'll send you guys a cake or something if you contact me about thsi review.

This is the last of the L...( read more)ubitsch set that I watched, and boy, do I have mixed feelings about the message. Too bad the movie is so awesome.

The good part about this movie first. I think that it might be the funniest of the bunch. I rarely *ahem* LOL, but I caught myself busting out laughing in a pathetically empty room. This is the married man's, 1930's style, Ferris Bueller. I love Maurice Chevalier in this movie so much that it makes me want to ignore the part that tears me apart. Pairing him with the two drastically different women in this movie is just an absolute joy to watch and I want to recommend this movie to all of my friends.

    ...except the married ones.

Here's the problem. The story seems like it is about the amazingness of fidelity. It screams "couples, look here for how to act and how to stay in love." As horribly single as I am and probably will be for a while, I can really appreciate true love. We see Maurice Chevalier be tempted by a terribly selfish b*tch woman and resist her whorish charms. But then misunderstanding and distrust lead to infidelity...

...and apparently that's just part of life. I hate to ruin the end (SPOILER!), but there's no come-uppin's in this movie. Things are just left in this safe "we screwed things up, but we'll keep going' area. I like the idea that true love will win out. Call me a guy who watched too much Hallmark Channel this weekend, but those are my two cents.

But this really is a funny, great movie. The music is fantastic and, once again, Maurice Chevalier is perfect. I don't regret watching it, but I wish the movie ended up a little differently. My cynical heart just can't take any more.
