This movie was amazing! so beautiful, so sad.. and everything i love about Australian cinema! I really recommend this one.. Tommy is chasing his dream - chasing music and its place in society and nature - its effects, its unseen possibilies... back home Alysse is waiting for him, as are his sister Em, and his mother.. tradgey strikes, and he comes home, but everything gets screwed up.. god this movie is so beautiful and so tradgic.. Set in the Melbourne rave seen, drugs, sex and, above all, music... Tommy is chasing music, it is how he ends up on the other side of the world, but when he comes back, he takes a step away from opera and starts experimenting with electronica and dance music.,, this movie is gorgeous, moving, full of beauitful sounds, heartbreak and seriousl, the best aussie movie i have seen in a while..
Tommy Matisse is a gifted musician studying at London's Royal Academy of Music, where he is striving to write a brilliant new operatic song called "One Perfect Day" in conjunction with his girlfriend Alysse back in Australia. When Tommy's sister Emma dies of a drug overdose after a night of clubbing with Alysse, he returns to Melbourne and breaks up with Alysse when she admits her part in Emma's death. As Alysse seeks solace in drugs and in the arms of a manipulative nightclub owner, Tommy undertakes an odyssey of self-discovery and tragedy in Melbourne's dance music scene. Fate brings them together again when Tommy reworks their opera by infusing classical music with electronic beats, but further tragedy is just around the corner...
the youth of today will most likely follow this movie to a T... all about the way the party scene absorbs the youth of today, and how we turn to drugs for kicks and confort.
This movie is a stunning piece of cinema..it really gets to your heart and soul. Based around the dance/drug scene, its' gritty feel adds to the drama. Worth watching for the euphoric finale which ties up all the loose ends nicely, and ends the movie on an emotional high. Great performances from Dan Spielman, Leanna Walsman, Kerry Armstrong, and Abby Cornish. The music soundtrack is also a star here.
Not a bad attempt for Australia's excuse to the drug movie genre. Well acted but a little far fetched. The musics not bad but I'd rather rent "Human Traffic" instead. At least then you get laughs with your tunes.
