Critic Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes

"A pretty easy ride, almost entirely because of John Candy and the miraculous casting of Maureen O'Hara."
‑ Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy
"Surprisingly pleasant, moving comedy from Chris Columbus."
‑ Ken Hanke, Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC)
"John Candy sells it."
‑ Mike McGranaghan, Aisle Seat
"Orchestrates a peaceful stream of gags and one-liners while piecing together a puzzle of broken hearts...one of Columbus's best films, and easily ranks as Candy's most dimensional performance. He's a joy to watch here."
‑ Brian Orndorf, BrianOrndorf.com
"Odd but hilarious Columbus comedy."
‑ Gerry Shamray, Your Movies (cleveland.com)
"As a romance, Only the Lonely undoubtedly succeeds."
‑ David Nusair, Reel Film Reviews
"One of Candy's sweetest (and most underappreciated) films"
‑ James Sanford, Kalamazoo Gazette
