Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall actually make a good team, descent western flick in the Costner "long as balls" formula.
I admire it mostly for its craft, cinematography, and great performances. It is a respectful nod to a more prolific era for its genre.
Editing could have been better, but ultimately this is my favorite western of all time. the anticipation built up during a slow but eventful film sets the perfect scene for one of the best sequences in film history at the end of the film. accurate and thoughtful, this is a must...( read more)
I like Westerns but after all the crappy westerns being put out I didnt think Id like this 1 but it was good & the ending was perfect
A slow-burner to start with this film really establishes its characters well. A very realistic gun-battle culmination (it's a Western after all) and beautiful scenery shot well maintains the attention.
