For such a troubling socio-political subject, the film succeeds by presenting a fairly neutral and somewhat naive character, an antihero in the flesh of an incredible Luis Tosar, flawed but savvy and resourceful, trapped in the middle of a national crisis. Clara Rojas' and her son's story is a mere plot device that serves to illustrate with no adornments the desperate situation of colombian farmers who have to either live in a lawless and savage land or runaway hoping to find a normal life.
