  The film that almost kills Jackie, watch it mostly for the final act, and the chase sequence. Some good of locations, but Alan Tam is highly annoying in his sidekick role. On the good side, Jackie beats some monks, and rides a very rad 80s car.

  Despite being called Operation Condor 2: Amour of God, this is actually the first entry in the series. With Chan spending seven years on the series third entry, Chinese Zodiac, and it being release this later year it's a good time to check this series out. Amour of God is about Asian Hawk (Jackie Chan) and his friend Alan (Alan Tam) who goes a quest to save Alan's fiancé (Hawk ex-girlfriend). The story is somewhat interesting taking the troubled relationship between Hawk and Alan and trying to make it evolve. While the relationship aspect might work at times, Alan pretty much useless in the movie as his main purpose is to be saved. Though I will give Alan Tam character credit for providing some comic relief. The movie as a whole never has a serious tone which works for the movie good humor, though the tone never makes Amour of God exciting and the buildup to the climax is not well done. Despite me generally enjoying Chan's movies, this one is probably one his less impressive and interesting works. While at times it can be fun, some scenes drag out longer than necessary and certain aspects of the story are just not interesting. While the story itself is flawed, Chan portrayal of Asian Hawk actually moves the movie forward, he's also the only treasure I've seen in a movie that's actually properly equip to go treasure hunting. While the story is not well put together and may drag on a little longer than you might expect, overall there's more good than bad. Jackie Chan is probably the only actor you'll recognize if you don't see many of Chan Asian movies. Chan's fans will recognize Lola Forner from the lesser known, but enjoyable Wheels on Meals and the action/comedy classic Project A. With the exception of Jackie Chan, most the cast just aren't memorable. While they do their jobs correctly most of the time, the cast is just not that interesting. Now they deliver some good moments for the movie, but there largely forgettable and I don't think I've ever seen any of the other cast members in another movie without Chan in it. The choreography is what you would expect from a Chan movie with a great fight in the climax. I do want to praise Chan for finishing this movie and he will always have my respect for continuing making movies after nearly dying from making Amour of God. In a scene early in the movie involving Chan leaping from a wall to a tree to escape from angry natives, the branch Chan grabbed on while filming broke hit his head on the rock. This left Chan with a permanent thimble-sized hole on the right side of his head and left him with hearing problem in one ear. Another interesting detail about that this stunt is that Chan's hair grows in between shots. Chan also considers having long hair to be good luck since he always had long hair before the production of Amour of God. Thankfully Chan continued to make movies despite this injury and gave his audience his good time. Amour of God might not be Chan most impressive movie in terms of story, but it makes up for it with a great leading characters and a cast that delivers. With so many treasure hunters in movies lacking what it takes to stand out from the legendary Indiana Jones, Amour of God gives the audience a treasure hunter that stands out and doesn't take itself too serious for your enjoyment.
