Otis has everything he needs for the prom...The cool 80s tunes, the bitchin' Trans Am, the powder blue suit, and the girl shackled to a bed in his basement.
Maybe I am more twisted than I thought, but I loved this movie. It is a dark, disturbing, very funny, and just plain wrong...( read more) little gem.
I love Illeana Douglas in this type of role, like in To Die For. She is one sick twisted mother in this film, you have to love her. It was good to see Ashley Johnson. That flashed back the 90s for me, and made me feel a little old since I remember her playing little Chrissy Seaver on Growing Pains. She has grown up to be very pretty and a pretty good actress. Bostin Christopher was perfect in the role of Otis. That pathetic, slow psychopath that you both loathe and kind of feel sorry for.
If you are a fan of horror movies or black comedies, Otis should definitely be on your list.

A dark comedy with the emphasis on "dark". This is a film that starts out violent and brutal and then tries to make you laugh. The underlying premise is "the lighter side of abduction, rape and murder" and, not surprisingly, it just doesn't work.

It's a good attempt and helluva lot better than your average horror fare, but it can't compete with other horror satires.
Something about this movie just didn't work for me, and I think it's Otis. Not so much the actor, but the lack of effective characterization. Otis' obsession...( read more) is not believable nor is it a direct commentary of another movie; it's just flat and lifeless. I didn't think the funny parts were funny, just a poor attempt at twisted humor. The screenwriter should have watched a few more films in the horror satire genre, and the director and actors should have instantly passed on this one.

It may have worked for 'From Dusk Till Dawn' but changing genres midway (from thriller to black comedy in this case) does not work at all here.
It's still hard to believe that Ashley Johnson was the little girl in Growing Pains.
    Sheesh I'm old.

damn this is the worst thriller movie that has no ending

I'd read so many favorable reviews elsewhere on OTIS that I was prepared to enjoy a nice, twisted black comedy--prehaps something along the lines of SHAUN OF THE DEAD or even (dare I hope?) RE-ANIMATOR, but sadly I was doomed to disappointment for OTIS fails to be anything other ...( read more)than mediocre entertainment. All of the elements are there but they simply never come together the way that they should. There is quite enough fault to go around. The acting is adequate but screams for broader strokes. Bostin Christopher in the titular role never seems quite certain whether or not his character is mentally challenged or simply a wimp whose brother (Kevin Pollak) abuses him endlessly, and he leaves us wondering as well. The best comedic turns are Daniel Stern and Illeana Douglas as the parents of the teenaged victim and Jere Burns as a very abrasive/incompetent FBI agent respectively, but even they are under written and under played. The director Tony Krantz should have given his actors free rein and let them go even further overboard than they do with these characters in order to realize their full comedic potential. Did I like it? It was okay. Should you see it? Sure, go ahead. I'm in the minority in my opinion of this flick.

A dark comedy that took me awhile before I was actually enjoying it. Very few comedic moments but it had its fair share of funnies.

i really like this, it was extremely weird and different. a breath of fresh air with all of the damn horror remakes happening lately.

I'm usually not into these kinds of movies, but this one looks really good.

Started out kinda creepy but took a turn for the downright goofy towards the end.
