Out of Darkness was a successful 1994 made-for-TV movie and heralded as a return to form in legendary singer Diana Ross' movie career, which was put on hold almost indefinitely after Ross' third movie, "The Wiz", flopped in the box office in its initial release.
Ross plays Paulie Cooper, a former med student who loses 18 years of her life due to a bout with schizophrenia. After being released from a mental ward, she seeks to better herself in a world that has pretty much shunned her.
The movie was a triumphant for Ross as it was one of the first films that seriously dealt with schizophrenia. The film garnered Ross a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a TV Movie.
