Jayden- loved this movie, a raccoon name rj came 2 help a pack of hungry animals but he was really only helping him self to feed a bear that he stole food off then the pack of animals knew and he went away with no food for the bear and then i forgot what happened next lol i saw it last year in january but this is a great movie!
Liam- It was funny how rj stole all the food from the people.
This may not be a masterpice of its genre but it surely is a good movie. Very pleasant to the eye, Over the Hege also has to offer some funny moments and a touching story about friendship. And the cast was also well chosen.
An enjoyable and fairly intelligent children's film, making a change from the usual tripe DreamWorks' computer animation studio churns out. RJ the raccoon needs to get food to replace what he stole from an angry bear, so he enlists naive forest animals who have just woken up for spring to find that their forest is now a housing estate. It has a few problems that make Over The Hedge less memorable than it deserves to be, Verne the tortoise, sensible leader of the forest animals, is voiced by Garry Shandling as if he has been tranquillised, even his screaming sounds bored, the pace can be a little slow in places, and the music is far too slow, and there are too many characters to care about, only Hammy the hyperactive squirrel and RJ the scheming raccoon are interesting. Also, the basic plot is a little irritating. RJ is lying to them, they're going to find out, but he really doesn't need to lie to get what he wants, and the moment half way through when Verne destroys all their hard work is infuriating. Unfortunately Over The Hedge is clearly trying for a Woody and Buzz dynamic between Venre and RJ but fails because the film starts with RJ, making him the main character, and he's the one with the personality, so he's the one the audience cares for, so it doesn’t come across that he might be stealing Verne's thunder. Basically, Over The Hedge is much more enjoyable than it looks, but it doesn't really linger in the memory once it has finished.
Despite some reservations, I liked Over The Hedge. There are slightly too many characters - the humans are all forgettable or one-note, and Garry Shandling's dreary main character is completely derailed since the film starts with Bruce Willis's hip racoon - but a lot of them are likeable, and the story is charmingly low on fart jokes. Shining brightest are Steve Carell as a hyperactive squirrell and Omid Djalili as a pampered housecat, but Wanda Sykes is far from irritating as a skunk, and William Shatner is fun as a hammy-acting possum. The story's solid, although it could go more into whether the animals are struggling to survive (and whether stealing masses of junk food is actually going to help), and it's a pity one of the biggest gags has been lifted from Futurama. (The coffee thing.) Also the whole sequence where Vern (Shandling) feels replaced by RJ (Willis) is a blatant steal from Toy Story. Nevertheless, this is low on sass and pop culture, which makes it oddly traditional for "the makers of Shrek", in a good way. They should do more like this: pop culture jabbing has a sell-by date, whereas decent stories last. Although cutesy and less than life-affirming, this is neatly enjoyable stuff.

my favourite character is the Persian cat voiced by Omid Djalili. I love it when he sees the other animals and jumps up and down shouting "Intruder! Intruder!"
